About the ASU program stuff. Am I able to get in? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Nraveles11
Hey so question for all the baristas who have taken the ASU route:
I had a lot of issues in high school, I was undiagnosed for 3 years of HS and basically raw dogged reality with ADHD, depression, and GAD.

It really messed up my schoolwork and pretty much brought everything down. I have an 1100 on my SAT which is okay but a 2.6 GPA and super lower in my class (around 650 out of 980).

Is it still worth it to try applying?

I saw the “pathway to admission” as an option and has anyone done that?

I didn’t do the special pathway to admission, but when I first signed up for ASU someone called me within a few days to get more information from me. She sent me more things to fill out and then two weeks later I was starting classes. They have specific people who are liaisons between starbucks and ASU so they know everything that you need to know. They are so nice and so helpful I really recommend at least applying for more information.

I transferred in with pretty shitty grades from my previous university and online classes ended up working way better for me. Good luck!!

Thank you! I got a message like near instantly after applying to ASU to speak with them. Got a scheduled call for next week so we can talk then.

Pretty excited bc I’m finally able to start college to some degree, even if I do have to do the pathway stuff, it’s gonna be well worth it due to the tuition coverage n all that.

hi, so im pretty much in a lot of shit with my current college from being academically dismissed, do you think i still have the possibility of being accepted??

You’ll probably have to take the same path that the other person was talking about. They have something called pathway to admission. I believe the way it works is that you take a few classes that don’t count towards your degree, but are still free. They’re meant to help you get on an academic level that will allow you to do well in actual classes. You’ll get an advisor that will help walk you through everything and you can go at your own pace!!

They’ll 100% work with you to help you get into the program and starting actual classes at ASU. I recommend filling out the info and then seeing what the advisor says when they call! Like the other person said, they tend to get back to you super quick!

Also! You do need to be able to get your current school to send your transcripts, so as long as you don’t have any holds preventing that you should be fine!

do it!! i also fucked around in school due to mental health and even graduated a year late, im doing pathway to admission rn and i’m so excited to start school. the way pathway to admission works is you take 12-24 credits worth of classes (12 if you’re 22+ and 24 if you’re younger) and those credits still go towards your degree, you just have to maintain good grades, but it’s mostly self paced and there’s no required like zoom calls where you have to be there at a certain time or day.

I’ve been working at Starbucks for like 2 months now, specifically for the asu online opportunity. I applied, and have been talking to two advisors that are helping me out with everything. I’m in a similar boat as you, totally fucked off during hs due to anxiety, depression, ocd, etc all that. I didn’t even take the sat. I had a terrible gpa, and I got an email yesterday that I’m in the pathways to admission. I just have to take 8 classes first to build my gpa, then I can continue on with the major I want to work towards. I’m very excited to start and I think everyone who wants to go to college who works at starbs should do it :)

DO IT RN. I cannot tell you how phenomenal the ASU program is. I was a shit highschool student, had to transfer schools, retake classes 3x, and barely met grad requirements. I never took the ACT or SAT. When I applied to ASU I was so nervous but they really are amazing at ensuring you make it into the school. They’ll want your highschool transcripts and possibly a recommendation (can be anyone like even your manager) and that’s really it. If you don’t qualify for their credit courses they let you take the pre-requisite courses free of charge. I always thought I was a bad student but I realized it was the school system failing me. The support from ASU is unmatched and you can find answers to everything. They accept like 99% of people who apply and they always want Starbs workers because it helps them promote their school to other businesses

Gave me a lot of confidence! I applied and entered my transcript myself as I had a copy on hand happily so it took extra time off for waiting.

I have a meeting with someone on July 7th to talk over the phone or whatever they do it to go over everything.

I’m hopeful! It sounds amazing and I already picked my major choices (forensic science as a first and then social justice and human rights a second)
