Is your water filtered? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Madclaire022
So ever since I started working at the siren (281**** btw) our water that came out of the tap was city water(roughly 80ppm) and it was like this until very recently. And you can tell the difference between Starbucks filtered water(<12ppm) and the city water. When we got a new SM, I talked to them about our water. And we finally got the issue fixed. I want to note before the issue was resolved, the new store that was built close by, they had the unfiltered city water. So I'm curious, has anyone tested their water, and is your water actually filtered? Because I have never went to a store and actually got filtered water. If you haven't, I urge you to get one. Because the difference is so obvious to everyone I showed.

This could also affect the espresso machines causing them to break more frequently. This is because of the buildup of minerals in the unfiltered water that gets stuck along the sides of the pipes. Before we got out pipes switched, they (the Mastrena 2 II's) would break every week or two. Now, I am not sure the last time it actually broke/ had it serviced. Another sign, you might want to get your water checked out.

And if you're curious,
Our ice should be 0/1ppm
Ethos water around 60ppm
Starbucks filtered water, <12ppm

Our water is triple filtered. I assumed all Starbuck's were like that - sounded like it was a company rule. When we had an issue with our filtration they had us close while they fixed it and we dumped and remade everything.

All Starbucks should have filtered water.

Our machines break constantly and we’ve had triple filtered water for the last 3 years. Our filter is also BLACK after 2 weeks. I can’t imagine drinking unfiltered water and serving it

Not sure about them breaking more frequently, but it absolutely has an effect on the taste of the coffee. Especially with cold brew.
