kinda new partner question(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Longjumping_Stick_56
hey everyone! so i’ve been working at starbucks for about 3 weeks now, and i’ve been consistently asking everyone questions while i’m working, but i try to be super nice about it. i just want to learn! would this annoy you? i don’t want to overstep or annoy anyone, so i’m just wondering how you would feel if it were you. Thanks!

Everyone and I mean everyone goes through this “questions” phase, so any partner that doesn’t respond to your questions in a helpful, friendly way is just being an asshole… (they’ve been there too trust me)
Ask all you need to know, don’t feel guilty about it :)

no please ask questions!! As a barista trainer, I try to make sure everyone feels comfortable to ask my any and all questions because it's a lot of info to learn. Plus it's a lot easier to ask a question than to fix a mistake if you're feeling unsure.

Wish I had you as my trainer! I just started as well and I’ve been having a lot of brain fog & extra questions since getting up for opening shifts is new for me. & my trainers are quite the judgy bitches about it.

I tell all my new partners, if you’re NOT asking questions you’re doing something wrong! There is just too much information to learn! If it’s annoying your fellow partners, then they need to be reminded that they once were new too.

Asking questions is NOT annoying. Asking nonspecific or poorly thought out questions is, though. Don’t say “What goes in this?” while you stare at the shocked if you need help with a drink. Be specific in your questions. You know it’s a tall hot latte so you know what milk but forget how many shots? “How many shots in a tall hot latte?” is the question to ask, not “What else goes in here?”

honestly i’ve been here for months and i still ask questions, never feel bad about asking something! it can’t hurt to be too sure :)

We expect it. Find out who the shifts and barista trainers are. They tend to be best with questions but everyone will help.
The general expectation is you won’t feel actually comfortable until about 3 months in.
Your doing fine. Just remember if the partner next to you is also super super busy your going to get the very short hand answer. They aren’t mad. They don’t mind. They are just busy too. If the question is how do I make this? And they rattle off “double blonde, 4 chai, oat, light ice, cold foam - old style non fat to 100 + 2 vanilla” it’s because they have 6 drinks to do. If you want more in depth (or how to actually work that into a sequence) grab them at a lull or later in the day.

as a trainer, PLEASEEEE ask questions!!!! ask why, ask how, ask every question you think of! we want you to succeed and we want you to do things right.
and selfishly, if you do something wrong instead of just asking the right way to do it, we'll have to redo it anyway and show you then. asking questions saves time and makes you better at your job! hell as a trainer i'm STILL asking questions every once in a while

Nope, no such thing as a stupid question! It's a learning opportunity for everyone!

we'd rather u ask every single question that comes to your head instead of u doing something wrong!
gabbysafari1 points1y ago
asking questions is always a good thing! definitely a lot better than having to redo things because you did them wrong the first time (even tho that’s also completely understandable too!)

No I wouldn’t be annoyed. Unless you’re asking a stupid question like “is there gouda on the bacon gouda” like one new hire
