Is anyone else reaaaaally tired of asking “what size?” (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by bogodee
That is all.

Edit: thank you for the award. Also you guys are hilarious.
beepboopiforgot 196 points 1y ago
When they rap their 4 drink order and I have to go back and clarify what size for each of them 😔
bogodee [OP] 71 points 1y ago
Like ma’am/dude, we’re all in a rush, and that’s not helping 😭
Electrical_Metal_106 38 points 1y ago
By like the 3rd one I get a little sarcastic with them. To be fair, in the US (not sure about other markets), they only list one price so maybe people think there is only one size.
Hitothefive 11 points 1y ago
Starbucks created this issue, not the customer, by changing their menu boards to one size with lots of pictures. Menu’s with multiple sizes influence customers to make the choice.
djdementia 18 points 1y ago
This morning someone ordered like this:

>Double tall cup, Italian roast extra hot extra room.

I was flabbergasted and asked him to repeat and he just said exactly the same.

Turned out he wanted a pour over in a tall double cup.

I was so confused thinking he wanted a double espresso.
philosopher_cat_lady 12 points 1y ago
I work in a licensed store so I just interrupt their modified drink and ask what size so I can literally write down what they want on the cup. Then they go, "I'm sorry, can I get the size up from that?"
accountedthrowaway5 91 points 1y ago
yes. because I know they go to McDonald’s and order a medium or large sprite. i don’t know why they can’t just say medium or small when they come to Starbucks. we literally make drinks just say the size oh my gooooddddddddddddddd
krty98 51 points 1y ago
I don’t care if you get our size names right just tell me a size PLEASE
Responsible_Snow7109 28 points 1y ago
Exactly! Somebody ordered a drink once and I asked them what size and they said "whatever the medium one is".... and I told them I said I don't care about the terminology that you use because I'll understand what you mean even if you say small medium or large
BatWeary 33 points 1y ago
honest even at mcdonald’s people would pull up to the order box and tell me “a big mac with fries and coke” and just drive off, because apparently i’m supposed to know they want large everything
Cthulhu_Fleshsuit 16 points 1y ago
Or they just say "the regular" like.......there isn't a default at some of these stores...tf??? I had this guy yesterday order a small pike with cream and "a regular coffee with cream and 2 sugars" then when I handed him the tall and grande he looked all confused at me and was like "....the regular ISN'T a small?" Like no, if you wanted a small, order a small. Granted, I could've pressed for clarification but they seemed like they were in a hurry and were already ruching the process any chance they got.
BatWeary 16 points 1y ago
no but why did her order a small coffee and then ask for a regular sized coffee if he wanted a small??? i would like to know his thought process
1_21-gigawatts 2 points 1y ago
> like Oh. My. God. Do I have to tell you _everything_??
sweetpeachtae 6 points 1y ago
i can tell you as a former mcdonald’s worker that they do not even do it there 😂😂
thehairqueen 2 points 1y ago
Lol I always tell people to say small medium or large and I can decode it from there 🤣
PandaVike 73 points 1y ago
It’s the only employee shirt I’ve ever wanted “What size?”
Electrical_Metal_106 20 points 1y ago
Back side of the shirt says “Hot or Iced?”
bogodee [OP] 8 points 1y ago
Omg, I would buy this lol
[deleted] 0 points 1y ago
[deleted]
ladysingtheblues 53 points 1y ago
Boggles the mind, like do they not care??
mischievoushannah 46 points 1y ago
That when they clearly want a drink ice but doesn’t say it. But when you give it to them “oh I wanted that ice!!” Why the hell didn’t you say that? If you know what drink you want, we shouldn’t have to play 21 questions for you to say the important part - which is you want it ice and what size. One thing I’m happy about not working at SB anymore 😭
VVITCH_13 19 points 1y ago
Or when the customer doesn’t tell you they want their drink iced until they ask for light ice.
West-Priority-5395 12 points 1y ago
i have a customer who always brings in her own cup and asks for a “caramel macchiato, no ice” and i dont know why it’s so frustrating to me.. like is that a roundabout way of saying you want it hot or what, and then be sassy when you clarify it’s an iced drink. then she asks for a venti cup of ice on the side at pick up every. single time.. she doesn’t care about not using single use plastic she just wants her 10 cents.
bogodee [OP] 3 points 1y ago
Omg and then when I ask they’re like oh yeah, I DO want it iced! 😩
aspiringgrandpa 35 points 1y ago
i’m about to start giving everyone talls until they figure out how to order for themselves.
FaZeWeed 9 points 1y ago
i’m gonna start doing this
“sorry company policy says if you don’t specify what size we have to give you a tall”
thehairqueen 2 points 1y ago
I think it’s company standard to give them a grande if they don’t say a size in Canada and if we don’t type in a size first it’s defaults to a grande. I haven’t seen it in writing I don’t think but just told that
pinkyogi 2 points 1y ago
company policy would be venti so they’re charged more and starbucks can make even more $
cookiemonstah87 3 points 1y ago
I honestly did this when I worked there, but I defaulted to grande because apparently grande is standard
aspiringgrandpa 4 points 1y ago
yeah i mean the POS always puts grande if you don’t specify but imma start giving them talls so they can figure out how to order and learn some essential life skills
Blueberryfudge 34 points 1y ago
As a tarbucks employee having to ask everyone to hit skip or enter a phone number makes me want to die on the inside lmao
katesperdaghost 11 points 1y ago
god i feel that, half the time i end up hitting skip for them bc they don't have two brain cells to rub together to follow an incredibly simple instruction (': like if there's a language barrier it's understandable but i'm so tired of having to hold people's hands and walk them through the very simple process of ordering and paying
galaxydisco17 3 points 1y ago
It's the same way at krobux too
brokenleftjoycon 34 points 1y ago
“Regular”
Necessary_Low939 10 points 1y ago
Usually I just give them a medium because they can’t think for themselves.
brokenleftjoycon 3 points 1y ago
I’ve gotten into full on arguments with customers, literally spelling out small, medium, large and have gotten attitude as to why we don’t have a regular size. Usually I will default to grande but you can never be sure if they want a grande or venti.
Necessary_Low939 2 points 1y ago
And u bet I will end it with: well that’s what you paid for, you can pay extra if you want a bigger size and I’ll make it for u. Usually it will shut them up.

Love when they counter with, "What sizes do you have?"

😩
BatWeary 16 points 1y ago
i’ve told people we have small, med, large and x-large for certain drinks. and then they ask for the “fancy name starbucks uses”….and then proceed to ask why the sizes are called what they’re called
AmIAwakeOr 14 points 1y ago
There's no way out of the customer's infinite loop of madness... In the end they want a grande but in a trenta with whip 4-5 inches deep. Fml
[deleted] 1 points 1y ago
[removed]
persona-2 23 points 1y ago
I ask it so often it gets stuck. I’ll literally be like “a grande iced mocha no whip and what size was that?” Then I feel bad because they were one of the good ones.
naiyama 22 points 1y ago
I think what I’m tired of more is having to clarify if it’s hot or iced 😩
accountedthrowaway5 29 points 1y ago
the fact that you can literally just say “can I get a grande iced latte” but then you gotta break it down cause they tell you “can I get a latte”. ok what size. okay hot or iced. okay anything else. like the amount of steps that could’ve been removed if you just said it in one go 😭
yikes-wazowski 18 points 1y ago
And then they get upset that you’re asking so many questions! I’m a barista, not a mind reader.
Muva-Spooks 10 points 1y ago
Had a lady get mad today because she comes everyday and we haven’t don’t know who she is. Like ma’am, you come at different day parts and order different drinks. The reason we end up remembering who she is is because she wants “2 times extra light ice” like ma’am I’m sorry but fuck off and go to hell
accountedthrowaway5 3 points 1y ago
omg we have a customer who asks for light ice and then says “only two cubes of ice” and i just give her no ice cause im not doing this with you rn
Responsible_Snow7109 7 points 1y ago
Lol honestly! And its like when u ask them all those questions like size and temp, they get upset that ur asking too many questions while theyre trying to rush and shove their card in the card reader lmao
RubySapphireSage 20 points 1y ago
It’s annoying when you ask what size and they continue with the order ..because that’s blatantly ignoring me ugh 😑
symebe 10 points 1y ago
I be like excuse me what size

Them: *ignores me* yeah can I get strawberry açaí no water add heavy cream extra ice and 3 scoops of vanilla bean…..

Me: sorry what size for that first drink

Them: ughh a Ventay (yes ik I spelled it wrong, that’s how they say it)

Me:okay and can you repeat that last drink for me again.

Them: so upset, so angry

Me:happy 😊

WHY THE FUCK CANT STARBUCKS MAKE A TIC TOK ON HOW TO ORDER. THEY CARE SO FUCKING MUCH ABOUT DRIVE THRU TIMES THAN WHY DONT THEY EDUCATE THEIR CUSTOMERS SO WE DONT HAVE TO HOLD THEIR FUCKING HAND.
Responsible_Snow7109 6 points 1y ago
Well idk about starbucks but all these starbucks tik tok baristas dont make tik toks on how to properly order because that wOnT gEt ViEwS so instead they make shit harder by making tik toks of crazy ass drinks that dont require the temp of the drink to be stated most of the time cuz its all blended or foamy bullshit lol
imtotallysurebro 7 points 1y ago
And everytime a barista makes a video or comment like that they get flamed in the comments for complaining about their job.
cookiemonstah87 7 points 1y ago

Responsible_Snow7109 3 points 1y ago
Yep I've heard. I don't use tick tock because it's just not for me but I've heard other Baristas on here say that they have seen other Baristas get flamed in the comments of The Tick Tock videos
the1noir 13 points 1y ago
I’m getting tired of asking “ice or hot”?
Like do you not care whether or not your drink is ice or hot cause I really don’t care.
BatWeary 19 points 1y ago
“is that latte hot or iced today?”

“yes.”

“okay…was that HOT or ICED?”

“i said yes!!!”

“okay great, so a hot grande latte then?”

“what? no! i want iced! it’s 98° out here!”

even my 3 year old cousin is able to answer these questions better than grown adults.
Responsible_Snow7109 8 points 1y ago
Lol yepp all the children and teenagers that come to my store need less hand-holding thru the ordering process than the adults do
cookiemonstah87 7 points 1y ago
They're significantly less likely to throw a hissy fit, too!
Responsible_Snow7109 1 points 1y ago
Ohh agreed 100% lol

Never in my life have I never specified a size. I don’t get how ppl just order a drink without a size.

Also another pet peeve is when they hesitate and take so long just to im figure out what a large is called like ma’am small medium or large please tell me !!! It’s not hard !!! I will not punish you for not saying venti !!!
accountedthrowaway5 6 points 1y ago
THIS! like just say small medium or large my guy we won’t punish you and ban you for not saying talk grande or venti lmao
throwawaystarbiegirl 10 points 1y ago
“can i get a latte?”
“yes what size would you like that today?”
*customer squints at menu for five minutes as line grows behind them*
“…what sizes do you have?”
*i explain the sizes*
“grande sounds good”
“alright we will have that right out for you!”
*hands out drink*
“wait i wanted that iced and i wanted vanilla in it”
🫠sums it up
luvloping 9 points 1y ago
My favorite is when they give you the whole annoying order you say, sure what size, and they repeat it back slower like your an idiot
overturned23 7 points 1y ago
YES
dj1ady 6 points 1y ago
Im tired of asking what size, I’m tired of asking hot or iced, I’m tired of asking lemonade or water. I am tired.
TasteLikeCaKE 1 points 1y ago
I felt this... My spirit is weary 😩
bogodee [OP] 1 points 1y ago
I don’t ask that at all. If they can’t even bring themselves to specify if they want LEMONADE or WATER I’m literally not going to ask. Usually the ones who do order or the right way “strawberry açaí lemonade” or “passion tea lemonade”
fuhhh83110 6 points 1y ago
I used to immediately up charge and be like okay a venti/Trenta got it
IzzyIllustrations 6 points 1y ago
I just get moodier with every customer that does it. Like, this is a drink store. What the hell size and is it iced?
mrcupcake18 6 points 1y ago
YES FFS! I even pause to give them a chance to maybe say the size but no! All I get is silence or they move on to the next drink like ooooooomg lmao also I get petty when I do ask what size and they are like “regular”. The reason I do is because multiple times I’ve heard regular and I just but grande and I’ve had quite a few people be like “no I wanted tall or venti” how is that regular?! So now when they say “regular” I just ask again lmao!!
[deleted] 1 points 1y ago
[removed]
Various_Ad_2972 6 points 1y ago
Frl and I would just automatically give them grande but then that make our window times worse bc they’d be like “uh that’s supposed to be a venti” like no ma’am you didn’t specify so you get what you get!
august401 6 points 1y ago
i just don't anymore, everyone is getting a grande unless specified
No_Paramedic7498 6 points 1y ago
err day
ShannyES 5 points 1y ago
“What size did you say?”

Knowing full well THEY DIDNT.

One lady I said it to for EACH OF HER SIX DRINKS. Take a hint, Holmes.
Canadiansbux 5 points 1y ago
Part of the problem for me is that our menu panels only show grande. So they just assume we only have one size 😒
galaxydisco17 2 points 1y ago
Same here
Various_Ad_2972 5 points 1y ago
And for the regulars who order this drink almost everyday, why not start with size? Like okay maybe I can remember what size you normally get but why can’t you just add that to the other customizations? It makes everything go so much slower especially when they ignore me when I ask 🤦🏻‍♀️ also when I ask “hot or iced” and they yell “VENTI” (or whatever size) I’m like no do you want your drink HOT or ICED….bahahah I’m going crazy working here
Crafty_Vermicelli_77 5 points 1y ago
when you’re on dto and u ask what size and they go ‘yes’ … and continue to the next drink… like ma’am. i am abt to give u a tall.
[deleted] 1 points 1y ago
[removed]
ResidentialSaltbox 4 points 1y ago
A couple years ago, I was on DTO at another store bc mine was closed for COVID and about 4 cars in a row didn’t tell me what size they wanted for any of their drinks so I finally started answering with:
“Thank you for choosing starbucks, what SIZE drink can we get started for you today?” It worked but like damn I shouldn’t have to ask you like that :’)
ittybittybakerkitty 4 points 1y ago
*ding*
Hi welcome to sbux what can I get started for you?
"can I get an iced white mocha"
Sure what size?
"With extra EXTRA caramel drizzle"
Sure Hun what size?
"And vanilla sweet foam"
WHAT SIZE?!?!
"that's all" *drives off*
🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃
* give them a grande at the window*
"I wanted this as a large"
😭🤬😤🤗 Sure
junoseagoat 4 points 1y ago
On a good day, I might ask the same customer 3 times “what size” after every customization on their iced white mocha, and they still won’t answer and move on to the next drink and once again without specifying the size 🙃🫠
philosopher_cat_lady 3 points 1y ago
You mean to tell me drinks come in different sizes??
Jfostr0 3 points 1y ago
I’ve noticed that if I cut people off as they start ordering the second drink go ask for a size on the first(while being polite as possible) they will usually say the sizes for the rest, as if they suddenly remember that’s a decision they have to make. Seems to work in our favor most of the time.
GreedyKiwi33 3 points 1y ago
when you keep asking what size and they ignore you and continue ordering
britspix 3 points 1y ago
I’ll say “and is that a Venti size today?” I’m just trying to take their money. 8/10 they’ll say sure… or it’s “noooooo I hahaha I ONLY need a small one - whatever that size is called” and then I’ll give them tall and then at the window “I wanted a grande”. Like biiiiiitch. If you know then tell me
official_koda_ 3 points 1y ago
I love when you ask what size after the first three drinks and they CONTINUE to not say size…like bruh
IAMACHRISTMASWIZARD 3 points 1y ago
especially when they mishear you 90% of the time and go “no, no ice!” and look at you like you’re the dumb one-_-
Visual-Draw-1898 2 points 1y ago
My toxic trait is I am that b that literally always forgets to say a size so I actually get it. Trying to be better for the sanity of my coworkers 🤣
Poptart0911 2 points 1y ago
Do you want that (refresher) with water, lemonade, or coconut milk? "What does it regularly come with?" "Water, lemonade, or coconut milk." 😑
Old_Cut_5875 2 points 1y ago
In Australia they just say large medium or small. No effort at all to understand (but I honestly don’t blame them too much, it sucks)
Top_Cockroach652 1 points 1y ago
I feel bad for the Starbucks barista the other day because I didn’t clarify if I wanted hot or iced for my drink and she asked me 😭

Very thankful tho it was hot asf out
kaefeen 1 points 1y ago
it gets really annoying when you have to keep asking after the second drink like if I’ve had to ask for your first two drinks and you still don’t get it?!?? 😤
Wes-Anderson14 1 points 1y ago
