OP, did you request the day off in the system or did you just tell your SM you needed it off? When you submit a time off request in partner hours and the SM approves it, it automatically marks you as unavailable to work that day.

Just tell them you already made plans because you asked for the shift off and you will not be able to come in. Or call in sick. Whatever feels easier for you. Fuck them, enjoy your birthday. Welcome to your twenties!
