266*** Considering Leaving, Need Advice (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by lilchailatte
So I am in need of advice, I have been with the company for 3.5 years been a barista trainer (trained 13 baristas) & shift supervisor (stepped down). I am a ASU student (2yrs in) and utilize the health insurance/therapy through Lyra…however I am considering leaving as I got hired somewhere else that offers health insurance. My reasons for considering quitting being in the last year I have faced extreme situations such as a sexual harassment case, racism, retaliation & gaslighting from the district manager and even bullying from other SSV which ultimately led to my stepping down. I have had multiple absences due to illnesses and was even written up for irregular attendance due to that which hindered my ability to transfer to a new store away from the SSVs who made my work life an absolute shitshow.

I am not on good terms with my DM as he lied about meeting with me to discuss the outcome of the case I made against the SSV sexually harassing me and refused to ban him from the store after he was fired (not for the harassment) which led to him coming in months later to retrieve tips while I was working and triggering me. I have also been sick again for the last month and unable to fulfill my shifts which makes me paranoid about another write-up.

Despite knowing how to do my job and doing it well, I fear being terminated due to my history of absences due to illness or losing my benefits due to unionizing that is beginning to take place in my district. I am pro-union however I have faced so much retaliation already by challenging my DM for being dishonest. I am wondering if it’s worth it to work both jobs or if I am essentially a dead man walking and my time is already up. I obviously want to keep my scholarship but I am unsure if another two years is feasible as termination seems to always be looming and the job I used to love makes me beyond miserable now. What would you do in this situation?

My friend, please leave. Your Starbucks job has not been good to you! You don't deserve all the pressure you are under, and that is more than reason enough.

When you write your resignation letter, though, print off two copies, sign them, and have your SM sign them too. Have the SM keep one. It's proof you're not just walking off the job.
