If I give a notice a month after starting would I be un-rehirable? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by nick1995g
So backstory here, back in March I applied with a very big well known cable company to work in my local retail store doing sales. I worked 8 months at a call center doing tech support for another out of state cable company so I have experience dealing with the cable industry. The interview process went extremely well & all I had to do was wait for them to issue me a background check I can consent to, but apparently the store was going through management issues and after 2 months of waiting I had to forget about it & find something else, so I applied at Sbux and got hired during my interview. Fast forward 3 weeks after being hired, I’ve connected with my SM, my SSVs, and my fellow baristas, I’ve completed training, and have came in on my days off and covered and have quickly fell in love with my job, but OF COURSE very big well known cable company gets back in touch with me formally offering me the position.

What very big well known cable company is offering me though, is something Sbux just can’t. It’s full time, higher base pay, uncapped commission, PTO, Paid Vacation Time, Paid Sick Time, and Paid Emergency Time, free cable & internet services, a benefit package that blows Sbux’s out of the water, and TONS of other benefits all available on Day 1 (Yes Sbux is a Fortune 500 company, but very big well known cable company is a Fortune Top 25 Company), like I would be an absolute idiot to not accept it.

I just feel so bad because my teams has invested in me, has left me green apron cards, is telling me how great I’m doing. I haven’t said anything yet because I’m waiting for mu background check to come through, but my question is that if it doesn’t work out with very big well known cable company, would I be rehirable with Sbux because if it doesn’t I would love to come back.

Talk to your GM and SM. Let them know your situation and ask if you can have the option to come back in 'nth' months or so. Work the Big Cable Company job for a month or two, figure out if you like it and start the convo again. This is ultimately up to you, but if it were me I'd take the Big Company job.

Oh of course, and especially as someone with a communications degree, working for this company and getting into their corporate ladder would be a career path I would sell my soul for, the cable company is just a part of them, but the parent company is the second biggest media conglomerate in the world behind Disney. I’m just scared to say cuz I don’t want to put too much info out there

Oh that's all good! It's good to be vague on the internet I won't hound you for info. I really hope things work out though! This is Big!!!!!

I’ll also add that if you rly like Starbucks and won’t be too burned out by it, you could ask to work like 1 day a week. I know a ton of folks who have done this to keep benefits like the discount & Spotify & stuff.
