iced matcha latte recipe question (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by idk_why1000
I'm a rehire, I was away from sbux for a few years and when I came back I found that my training was very rushed. I didn't get even a full week of training because every training shift I was scheduled for consisted of maybe an hour of dedicated training and then the store inevitably got busy and my trainer and I were essentially coverage at that point.

Anyway, my question is about the iced matcha recipe. I've always made it with milk, syrup, matcha and ice, shaken. But I've noticed that my coworkers shake the matcha with syrup, ice and a bit of water then top the cup off with the milk after.

So, how do you all make it? What's the correct recipe?

Thanks!!

The app says iced matcha gets liquid cane

You’re in Canada aren’t you XD. The US and Canada atleast I know make matcha different. From what I’ve seen Canada does water, LCS, matcha, and ice. Shake-pour-milk-Lid. US doesn’t touch water just shake with milk and we don’t use LCS since our matcha is pre-sweetened

Maybe it’s a country difference I’m in the US and the matcha is already sweetened and the app here says it does not get any sweetener.
idk_why1000 [OP] 5 points 1y ago
Ah yes, I'm in Canada. Our matcha is also sweetened already but we also add syrup
cinnamondolcie 3 points 1y ago
canadian matcha is not sweetened !! that's why we add liquid cane sugar

The matcha recipes are all different in Canada than in the US so you’re gonna have to consult your manual

Same here!

If you're in canada, the recipe is water, liquid cane, ice, then matcha in the shaker. Shake 10 times. Pour into cup, then pour milk on top

I like the idea of shaking the matcha without the milk! One of the only techniques I haven’t thought to try… I really think it’s the milk that causes all the excess foam that I can’t stand. Man. I’m excited to try this out 😂
wormybabybabu 2 points 1y ago
Hmm theres not really any foam in our matcha so yeah give it a shot without the milk in the shaker, water to the bottom line on the shaker but most of us go like a cm below the line when making it w/o light ice

This is so weird to me as someone from the US. Ours is just milk, ice, matcha powder. It’s cool to see the differences from one place to another. I wonder why they don’t make it the same.
DishonestHorse 1 points 1y ago
We don’t use dairy milk in our shakers ever
wormybabybabu 1 points 1y ago
I've tried doing it that w ay but I'm pretty sure our matcha is different and it clumps without the water. It's honestly just the tiniest bit of water too

Thank you so much to everyone that gave genuine responses to my question!

I appreciate all the info that all of you gave!
DishonestHorse 2 points 1y ago
Just to make sure you see this OP, in Canada we do NOT put milk in our shakers!! We make a sweetened matcha “tea” with water and ice and classic then add milk in the cup. No milk in your shakers

In canada it comes with classic but in the US it doesnt.

The recipe changed in 2018 when the matcha powder became sugarless! The correct recipe has water as mentioned above

Find the recipe on the ipad
idk_why1000 [OP] 1 points 1y ago
Also, take a scroll through the other comments. Baristas from different countries are engaging in a discussion about different methods for making this drink, troubleshooting how to fix a common problem, talking about how the recipe and ingredients have changed over time and in different countries.... This discussion would not have happened if I had checked the iPad.
idk_why1000 [OP] 1 points 1y ago
If I was working today then obviously I would, but I'm not so that's why I asked here. Also, in case you didn't see for yourself, at the end of my post I asked how everyone else made the drink because I was curious if other baristas were mistakenly using the old recipe like I was (the answer to that broad question, unfortunately, is not available on the iPad).

If you didn't like my question then you could have just scrolled past without making a passive aggressive, pointless comment.

This type of passive aggressive answer makes you seem like a nightmare person and honestly ruins the atmosphere of this online community. I've seen this "check the iPad" response on several posts and it always comes across as condescending.

Haven't you ever heard the saying "there are no dumb questions"? Like, get off your high horse. Good lord.

Wow! Maybe a little thin-skinned? If you think my one honest statement is condescending, you’ve got a lot of disappointments coming down the pike.
idk_why1000 [OP] 1 points 1y ago
Correction, I said it was condescending, pointless and passive aggressive, which it is... And scrolling through your post/comment history, that all seems very on brand for you.
