Dyslexia … (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Fedup_team_member
I have TERRIBLE dyslexia and I can never EVER spell names right, and my team has started to tease me about it and i’m so insecure about it, should i start doing it on purpose? like spell carly like karleigh or tyler like tielur? like make it funny? or will i get in trouble

I have a similar disability that makes me spell things wrong. Maybe let them know that you don’t appreciate it. I mean you can try and make it funny but I wouldn’t recommend it because it doesn’t really solve the problem. You most likely won’t be in trouble bc it might be a genuine mistake. My co workers used to say things but I let them know and offer to help me remember spellings others still make fun of it. I know it hurts and I am sorry it happening to you!

If you make yourself the butt of a joke, you establish the idea that it's acceptable for other people to. Don't. Doesn't matter if not letting them joke at your expense makes you a "buzzkill" - it's not appropriate to make fun of someone's disability, period.

I have the same issue and it extends to reading the names. I was being teased for saying them wrong. I told them I had a disability and they all "have the same disability" or reason why they make fun of me ie they claim to not understand social cues.
So I stopped saying names at hand off.
It annoys the piss out of me how my store makes it a competition for who's more disabled. Like come on I'm just trying to survive this shift. Having a disability isn't a trend, I'll gladly give away my dyslexia and mental health issues.

Same thing at my store people compare “brain farts” to my inability to spell or sometimes even get a proper sentence out. It can really suck seeing letters that normally make sense make none like “Carol” can I spell it yes when I see the name I say “Carlos” or “Carl” bc that is how my brain processes it
