That’s a picture of the page where you manually declare your cash tips for tax purposes. It won’t list anything if you didn’t type anything in there.

You do get tips during training, but at a lot of stores, you’re expected to collect your cash tips yourself. They should be kept in the safe. Ask your shift supervisor next time you work. Cash tips are calculated every Tuesday; everyone gets an amount proportional to their hours worked in the previous week.

Tips left by app users should be added to your paycheck automatically. If you’ve received a paycheck by now, check your pay stub: from the screen you’re on here, click Pay Statement on the left side, then click the unmarked gray box next to the date of your paycheck. You must have pop ups enabled in your browser.

I recently got a letter telling me that I’m part of a class action lawsuit involving Starbucks, because they didn’t pay out tips correctly while I was working there 🙃 I’m always skeptical of app tips now for this reason.
mhgl 7 points 1y ago
You generally have to join a class action lawsuit, are you saying you were opted-in automatically somehow?
Luminaiel 2 points 1y ago
Yup! The letter pretty much said that if I wanted to sue separately I would have to opt out. I guess they already have all of the records of employment from Starbucks, so it basically said I would be getting a check in the mail once the worked through the lawsuit.

Our tips are not calculated on any set date at my store. sometimes they don't get done for two weeks sometimes once a week, theres only one person that does it and they don't get scheduled to do it at any particular time they just take time to do it if they can but if it's busy when they are at the store then tips don't get done.
Electrical_Metal_106 38 points 1y ago
There’s an issue there. Your SM should be making sure that someone gets scheduled to do the tips weekly.
wormybabybabu 5 points 1y ago
Yeaaaah.....
Pizza_Machin3 13 points 1y ago
Your tips should be done every Tuesday. Talk to your SM. If that doesn’t work contact your DM via email with your concerns on cash management
-Ana-- 1 points 1y ago
Y'all have specified days? We used to only do tip outs once a month, but then that would be a full 4-6hrs of NC for just tips (30ish partners). Now we do them about every 2 weeks, about 2hrs NC
AdIll7946 3 points 1y ago
or once a week for 1 lol
agutema 7 points 1y ago
Tips are an important part of cash management. Large, unsecured, uncounted amounts of cash are the perfect target for theft. Consider reaching out to your DM (or your SM first but it appears they don’t seem to prioritize risk management).

You definitely should have received tips. But you're looking at where you are supposed to manually record your own tips. So that will stay empty until you update it. If you haven't been given your tips, you should ask someone where they are... at my store we keep ours in a little organizer and its our responsibility to collet them ourselves.
Longjumping_Stick_56 [OP] 8 points 1y ago
thanks, that has never been mentioned to me so i’ll ask!
verdeuce 2 points 1y ago
They’re kept secure right?

If it's training then you don't get tips. I dunno about American Starbucks but in Canada, even as a Barista Trainer I didn't get any tips when I was scheduled to train a green bean. It's because technically you're not considered to be "coverage". You'll start receiving tips for your first week of scheduled regular shifts. The same applies to seasonal training (for drinks, safety, maintenance).

Edit: And you won't get any cash tips for those training hours either

TL;DR Yea, that's normal
fuwaldah 7 points 1y ago
Did you receive cash tips?
Longjumping_Stick_56 [OP] 0 points 1y ago
nope
fuwaldah 13 points 1y ago
Have you asked for them?
-Ana-- 4 points 1y ago
Apparently my ASM just found out that training hours and non coverage hours are not eligible for tips? Because those hours are 'technically' not directly contributing to customers? 🤷🏻‍♀️

That I know of we are still calculating all hours for the cash tips. But maybe the system has different calculations for the digital tips?
HarleyLeMay 1 points 1y ago
I got cash tips during my training week.
beanslinger9715 0 points 1y ago
so weird, we get tipped during training here?? is it a district specific thing? i feel dumb/like i’m overthinking lol but it’s not like the tip distribution report differentiates between training/noncov/coverage hours. i’d have been livid if i didn’t get tipped out with everyone else tbh - you work on the floor with a buddy in training yes? you are absolutely contributing to custies tf ??
-Ana-- 5 points 1y ago
This is here in Canada. And we have been tipping for all hours cov/NC/tr. ASM only heard about it in the weekly meeting like last week. She was livid and was going to look into it further 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ask someone how is the tip handled at your store. At my store they give the tips every Tuesday accordingly on how many hours you worked during the previous week, but I'm not sure if that's standard or not.

And if I'm not wrong, this part of the partner information is for you to declare your tips if you got over $20.

BTW, this is my 3th week working at Starbucks, so I may be wrong :)
mhgl 4 points 1y ago
3th, eh?
jordan_leigh 2 points 1y ago
If I remember correctly you don’t earn tips for the first two weeks while you’re in your training period.
Sufficient-Level-408 1 points 1y ago
Yeah, pretty sure you need to be coded as "coverage" or "non-coverage" in order to earn tips. Plenty of reasons that I don't agree with the system, but trying to recall the rules.

With my store, tips are handed out on Tuesdays bc that’s when they open the safe. More often than not, I have a week or two when I don’t have a shift scheduled for Tuesday and my tips just sit “accumulating” but usually in with a week or 2 worth of tips, it can be an average of $10-15?

I went a full month of not getting tips though, and when I got my tips the other day, it was $25
Kritter82 1 points 1y ago
I was training at a store while mine was being built, we didn’t get tips that whole month because we weren’t a part of that store, and we got paid mileage instead.
verdeuce 1 points 1y ago
This isn’t true and you should definitely have tips at the store you were at while your store wasn’t open
Kritter82 1 points 1y ago
Oh I know, nothing I can do about it now cuz it was 5 years ago. And I found out others were getting tips and also getting mileage every day, while the store I was at only did a mileage pay out twice. It was 60 miles roundtrip to that store.
verdeuce 1 points 1y ago
Holy crap. I’m sorry
Apopheniacal 1 points 1y ago
You definitely need to ask someone about the cash tips, however digital tips should appear on your pay stub! They aren't stellar though (at least at my store), so I wouldn't be shocked if you didn't notice any significant bump on your paycheck.

Why would you get tips for being trained? You're being trained. You may not realize it now but you're being trained by someone who knows how to work there.
