how many hours should a highschooler work? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by czyrelle
for background, i am a junior in high school and this will be my first job. my school gets off at either 2:35 or at 3:05 ( there were talks of my school starting 30 mins later )

im part of the student council so i may have to stay afterschool for a few days. i dont want to overwhelm myself since i also have 4 AP classes i signed up for.

i was thinking maybe 3 hours? is that too much or too little? so i asked for 4PM then afterwards which i plan to update my manager until 7:00 or 6:00. im working more hours at saturdays too.

I'm an incoming high school senior. i worked 5 days a week (usually 4 week days & one weekend day) with 4 hr shifts for almost the entirety of my junior yr. i only took 2 AP classes, but i could've handled a 3rd class too tbh. you'd probably manage with only 12 hours a week or so

I’m assuming your a minor? Starbucks has a lot of minor rules in place to help you with balance. On school days you can’t work more then 4 hours. Weekends are 8. Total for a week is 20 max. School days you can only work between 3-10pm. Weekends 7a-10pm. And 5 days a week max.

Hi! I'm a Junior and also take 4 AP Classes and do council we are in the same boat! I've worked at Starbucks for almost a year now and I tend to work 4-hour shifts 3 times a week. During school, I usually worked from 3:30-7:30 Tuesday & Thursday. Then working one weekend day 8-12 Saturday or Sunday. I'm totally up to answering anything you may be wondering!

Well first of all you can very easily become a barista trainer once you yourself have the knowledge. Then there are 2 online programs "Coffee Master' & "Greener Apron" a lot of these show that you were dedicated and knowledgeful in your workplace.

when i was in high school i usually worked 12 hours a week, so 3 little 4 hour shifts. they’d usually be like 4:30-8:30 or 9. i found i had a lot of time to still catch up on school and extracurriculares since i had like 1.5 hours between school and work, and a little extra time after work. weekends i usually worked in the morning, like 10-2pm? it wasn’t time consuming at all
