are store managers supposed to close??(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by dayahorne
My current manager (before she became manager) once told me like two years ago that managers are supposed to work all shifts. One day A morning, one day a mid, and one day a closing shift. Is that true?
Our typical schedules are opener 530 to 2, second 630/700 to 3 then 930 to 5/6 and then closer 1230/1 to 9.
Because said current manager only works mornings, unless someone has an emergency and she'll come in second. But she never and I mean never works any other time.

In theory, yes. I remember a few months ago my district had a major issue with labor (most stores were way over-scheduling their labor) and our DM told all SMs that they need to do one close, one open every week for a month so they could understand the needs of the store.
Personally, I think all SMs ought to do this. It’s *their store.* How can an SM effectively run a store if they only see it for 1/3rd of its operating time?

i was told that it used to be that and recently changed sl SMs have to work the busiest day part (peak) on majority if not all of their shifts…i think it varies by district tho

There is no rule either way. Managers are only expected to do what's best for business.

Depends on the area they work in. The higher ups (DM and RD) may have different requirements based on what’s needed in your area. In my area we are required to open and close once a quarter. They are also required to work across all day parts once a week to see as many partners as possible. One weekend day is also required per week.

that would be favorable in theory. but it usually just doesn’t happen. my guess would be they want to be there for peak? but idk. my sm only works mornings but is pretty cool about working at night, especially doubles, but only for emergencies
