Manager changing hours (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by pastadunk
So my SM has been out sick with COVID (yay) but while she’s been out she’s edited my punchouts back down to my scheduled time. For context I stayed on the floor about 10 minutes after my shift ended because the ssv asked me to finish up before i headed out. I got a notification saying my punches had been changed and she had put my 10:40 clock out back down to 10:30, the time I was scheduled out.

I know it isn’t that big of a deal but that adds up when it happens almost every shift and that money is being taken away from me. I don’t wanna bring it up at my store because I’m unsure of if this is something I could get in trouble for brining up.

Is this an issue? Should I bring it up or just forget about it?

That is an issue, you are paid for hours worked. If she edits without your permission that is also an issue.

That’s what I was thinking. I want to get paid but i’m scared to bring it up.

definitely talk about it, once wouldve been fine to it’s like a dollar but 10 minutes every day for 7 days probably more overall is losing more and more money. if she doesn’t fix it i’d call the hotline/corporate it’s not fair for you to stay and work for free.

She’s been doing this since I started. Very often when i clock out later than my schedule it gets taken back. I’m going to talk to my asm and see if they have any insight.

how long have you been working there!?
pastadunk [OP] 1 points 1y ago
7 or 8 months now. Yeah it happens and I didn’t think much of it until I brought it up to a friend

definitely bring that up! it’s fraud, time theft.
Alternative_Exam3723 3 points 1y ago
That’s ✨illegal✨
Get that bag 💁🏼‍♀️

It is a big deal. Dispute the edit.

Keep track of this!!!! On paper! Who was shift lead these days? When did you leave? How long after this shift did the manager edit your punched hours? These details are important especially if they are doing this to other people. The dollar stores have notebooks now that I always stock up on to keep track of drama like this in my store. Don’t let the manager title intimidate you! Your hours means your money! If this is happening to others this is major illegal and on Starbucks not you. Message your manager or call and say hey no I was working until this time not the time you edited. I don’t work off the clock!

Bring it up! Otherwise it’s wage theft! Hit dispute on it especially if it’s a reoccurring thing

Very illegal and quite literally theft. She is STEALING your money to make bonus. Not only that but she is likely doing this to other partners. Please report her!

100% gather proof of your actual hours worked (punch in/punch out) and the edited hours to your scheduled end time, go to thr labor board. You are legally entitled to pay for the entire time you work. Depending on your state you can get back plus a penalty.

dispute it

it is illegal, but also you shouldn’t be staying more than 5 minutes past your shift unless you’re closing. those minutes add up to your pay yes but they also add up to taking away from the set given hours the store has, so you’re gonna force them to cut hours for future schedules because of this. yes it’s illegal, but also stop staying later unless you’re closing. once your shift time is up you clock out and leave.

The issue is I’m being asked to stay later by the ssv that’s running the floor. Our store has a lot of issues with labor and that’s probably why she’s cutting it down in the first place but that isn’t exactly my problem. If she wanted me out at that time she should tell SSVs to stop asking people to stay. I never stay unless explicitly asked to which I should be payed for.

that is ✨illegal✨ but I would talk to them first just to make sure it’s not a misunderstanding

Also get in touch with your labor department- that type of behavior needs to be reported

I’d just call the partner resource center or get in touch with ethics and compliance. Ethics and compliance gets shit done
