How long do I wait to ask about Shift Supervisior Position?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by PartyAnything3408
For context I started Starbucks on 4/28/20 and I worked my last shift 9/04/21 so I worked there for a little under 1y 5m. I just came back and I’m currently picking up shifts at a store until a new store opens (early August). I’ve always wanted to move up to a trainer and then eventually a SSV but I wasn’t sure if I had to work for starbucks for 6 months consecutively or all together before applying. Im just trying to figure out how long until I can ask about it. When it comes to work, I bounced back like I never left, but I just wanted to know If i’d be able to make that jump having come back so recently.

Every store is different, but maybe ask your manager how many SSV they can have at your store. My store allows no more than 8. There’s actually a guy there that has no Starbucks experience. Like making drinks and etc. He got the position for SSV and some people at my work are frustrated ! He’s been there less than 3 months! There are actually some SSV too that have worked less than a year as well. I just think you have to ask your store manager and see what their requirements are. I wish you luck and I hope you do get the SSV position! 💕

Ask about it asap your manager and other shift leads will start helping you get on track for it. For instance perfecting your bar technique and even helping you learn how to nicely guide your green beans into doing things properly. As well as becoming a trainer.

Afaik there’s no time limit, it’s more about skill and fit. It also doesn’t tend to be an “application,” it is usually just an interview with your SM, unless you’re trying to take the position at another store. So definitely talk to your SM! Even if there aren’t openings yet, it’s inevitable that there will be eventually so it’s good to have your SM know that you’re interested before the time comes, and they can also help you develop/prepare for the role.
(Side note: SSV = shift supervisor. Not that I think anyone would think you’re making this reference, but SS is an abbreviation with bad connotations. Just thought you should know so you can avoid a potentially embarrassing mistake later down the road or something!)

ahh thank you! i was always told it was minimum 6m the with the company but didn’t know if it was right and the training didn’t explain it much in detail.

I don’t think so but I could be wrong! Because you can get hired as an SSV and never have been a barista. It doesn’t happen often and is generally a bad idea imo but it happens. But your best bet is just to ask your SM!
