I have someone who comes in, 13 pumps chai, no water, 190°. It works manually, we refuse too. Instead we have started steaming the chai to x hot first then steaming the milk to x hot. Then give the steam wand a very good clean.

Wow I feel like whoever engineered the Mastrena would have an aneurysm if they knew it was being used to steam chai concentrate
Not_Another_Karen21 points1y ago
The customer always complains it's not hot enough if we don't because of the 13 pumps.
durqandat5 points1y ago
Our hypothetical engineer really doesn’t care
jaxattackk5 points1y ago
What machines do you guys have? The new ones you can manually steam more if you push the handle up instead of down.
Not_Another_Karen6 points1y ago
Mastrena 1. We can "free steam" if it's in the middle. But the first and last time I tried it for her, it started forming big bubbles and my milk jug was bouncing a bit.
jaxattackk2 points1y ago
Aww I gotcha. Oh shit it probably shouldn’t be doing that. I hope your machine is okay 😭
Not_Another_Karen9 points1y ago
My team lead told me not to do it again, even per customer request. We don't free steam now.

No I can’t stand burnt hot milk exploding on me. 190 or 170, they can’t taste the difference. This corporation create these annoying ass customers seriously, u won’t find them acting like this at another places like Dunkin’ Donuts
Kindly-Trust7211 [OP]30 points1y ago
tis because every time we remind customers we are in fact human corporate says no no 🥺
Necessary_Low93912 points1y ago
Honestly, these customers should know better and know how to act. They act like they don’t have parents teaching them manners at home. And they get pissed when we don’t greet them and go an extra mile for them? Just wtf.
Longjumping_Stick_567 points1y ago
the amount of times i’ve been on front and welcomed someone and they just look at me almost disgusted and ignore me :)))
Necessary_Low9393 points1y ago
Yeah not even a hi like what lol.
stardreamer002 points1y ago
Aren’t we not allowed to go over 180 bc the whole McDonald’s thing ?? I legit tell people no
Necessary_Low9391 points1y ago
What happened at McDonald’s?
stardreamer001 points1y ago
The whole scandal in like 2005 or something here’s the link. https://www.poolelg.com/blog/the-truth-behind-the-mcdonald-s-hot-coffee-case-.cfm
Necessary_Low9393 points1y ago
Oh I see. Even tho the customers at fault haha. Well yeah I usually just ignore the 180/190 degrees and just make extra hot now. Can’t be bothered. If they complain they complain.
Zealousideal_Yam622646 points1y ago
Is... is that even possible. The steamer shuts off at like 170 or 180 right?
throwaway120934098729 points1y ago
Yeah, good luck getting past 180, even manually!
Kindly-Trust7211 [OP]44 points1y ago
It unfortunately got up to 190 pushing the steamer up 🫠
throwaway12093409873 points1y ago
Oof
molwalk9 points1y ago
they're gonna wait for it to cool down anyway before they can drink it surely??
[deleted]5 points1y ago
Half the cup is going to filled with syrup so why even add the effing milk?!!!! Everytime we get a mobile like this I always want to ask how they're doing because, wtf!!! You just ordered half a cup of syrup!!!
amaraynicole4 points1y ago
I don't read the person's name until the drink is done and I'm handing it off so, sorry Kathy😅
Jubbs2373 points1y ago
I normally steam the milk and concentrate together for the drink and add hot water when they do this, your drink is mostly chai concentrate now babes I’m sorry it’s cold now
cpv_912 points1y ago
I flat out refuse to heat anything past what the machine does as extra hot. Very early on (2004-2005) in my sbux career, I free steamed for some needy 180° request and had the milk completely overboil and burn me (venti size as I remember). I WILL NEVER put myself in that position again. Burnt milk is not necessary and they cannot tell the difference between 170° and 190°. I simply accept the request and steam as extra hot. No argument, no discussion. If asked if it's x temp, I respond 'yep, it's extra hot. Have a great day. 😊'
Ace_Hardwear2 points1y ago
we have a customer who insists one 190 and no one will do it for him because every time we try the milk boils over and burns us💀💀
cpv_912 points1y ago
That's a hard pass. He would get a big fat no from me, as well. You get extra hot as the mastrena makes.. And that's it. ♨️
RubySapphireSage1 points1y ago
Lady came in for a honey citrus mint tea “extra hot” yesterday and I’m like ma’am you barely can sip the drink because it’s that hot like how hot do you need it to be? Tongue blistering
