trainer advice? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by broadwaybraby
SO... we've all been trained before (ideally/hopefully) and i've been a trainer for about a month now. i'm probably decent as a trainer but i really want to go overboard and over the top to make my trainees feel both welcomed and confident in their new workplace.

what did your trainers do well? and what do you wish they would have spent more time on/done instead? i want to make sure i make this overwhelming job as easy to digest as possible. (selfishly because i want them to stay so we aren't understaffed, but mostly because i empathize with not knowing wtf is going on!)

i remember any time i would mess up or even seem the littlest nervous she would say “even if you have a long line and people are upset about it don’t worry, they’re the ones choosing to wait and it’s just coffee” and “everything is fixable” and that calmed me a lot

my trainer did a really good job at calming any worries i had . she was always reassuring me and was really chill about everything ! she helped me learn while making sure i wasn’t taking things tooooo seriously lol .

definitely my favorite thing that she did was give me little info sheets about certain positions after we did them . when i did customer support , she gave me a paper with the cycle , dates for things , etc ; when i did hot bar she gave me a paper with the different pump numbers / drinks with special modifications . these were helpful to look back on and i still keep them in my apron pocket just in case !

the only thing i think she could’ve done better was teaching me how to make things like mocha , frap roast , etc . just some random things that i have to ask other ppl about to do , not horrible tho
