I just did the training modules to become a trainer. What are tips and tricks my fellow trainers have to make it not so overwhelming for new hires? I just want to be a safe place for the newbies and help them out as much as I can!

Well from a trainee and transfer perspective, if the trainee hasn't worked at starbucks at all and don't have any experience in starbucks(not a transfer) then please go slowly. It is overwhelming to get so much info in such a short period and be expected to be just as good as the seasoned employees.

I myself had no prior barista experience so I understand how overwhelming it can be. Starting off I had a lot of panic attacks but I’ve come a long way and I’m very happy to be able to recognize my own growth

one thing i liked about my trainer was that she was very kind and patient with me during the learning process. it was really helpful when she would let me guess the shots and syrups and then confirm after a couple of guesses. i was able to learn faster that way. honestly just be super duper patient cause, as a former green bean, i loved how my trainer and all my coworkers understood that i was still in the learning process because lord knows i was overwhelmed af

The best tip I can give is to get to know your trainee and try to make them feel welcome. It can be so hard starting a new job with new people, so finding out their interests and trying to build a connection between them and yourself, and then and others is so important!

I was really big on asking what their learning style is and leaning as heavily into that style as possible. Ex. Had a trainee who was very auditory learning and I just talked out every single step and repeated myself as many times as possible until he understood. Had my kinesthetic (idk if that’s the word) learners blow through the modules so we had more time to physically practice the skills

It’s the right spelling but I can’t say that word for the life of me 😂😂 it’s unfortunate because that’s the type of learner I am
