nah, but they ordered it upsidedown because they wanted it mixed for them. Im all for creativity and presentation when it doesnt interfere with anything, but this is past that line and enters "intentionally making a drink wrong" territory lol

Every. Single. One. I have ever made I’ve had a complaint for, and I used to make them on a weekly basis. And they all came back. And yes they were all during peak probably. And every time I would grab it and mix it and hand it back.

LOL when I was training someone around it was 2004...(damn I feel old lol) but I was like If you can make a latte you can make it all. I was holding an empty cup and my friend goes isnt that from dodgeball and I threw the cup at him and I turned around and said if you can dodge a cup you can dodge a ball.

add ice so that there’s half an inch of it above the espresso so that when you later the milk hits the hive instead of the shots (if that makes sense)

when the "upside down" started was because of how the caramel macchiato was put out as.


sip the caramel and coffee and then enjoy the sweet vanilla milk. a layered drink.


well when you used a straw (pre sippy cup lids) you put it in and it goes right into the milk and you drink it down to the espresso and caramel so we came up with the "upside down" so you can drink the iced caramel macchiato like a hot one.


so in full essence: the 'petty' way, is, and will be the 'correct' way to make it...
the official way has be lost to antiquity and gone the way of: "this is how people want it anyway" much as shaken espressos with just a big splash of milk on top instead of making a pain in the ass latte.

I personally always do vanilla, lattice caramel drizzle in the cup, shots, milk, ice, light drizzle on top. We have a regular that gets two venti quads upside down every day, so I’m used to making them. 😅

Is this not how an upside down CM is made? If they want it to look like a latte, they can order it stirred. I have several regulars that want it upside down so they can suck up the caramel with a straw as they want it, so I always make them like this when ordered upside down

Same way? As far as I know, upside down is just built upside down, stirred is stirred. If yiu were supposed to stir an upside down drink, it wouldnt be a different button

Spoon on top of the shots and add the milk so layer remains :) I will say for some reason I’ve never had a hot upside down cm even tho I’ve worked two years there lol

I considered that but i really doubt it'd be reasonably effective. Especially bc there's so much more milk than espresso, and that they're gonna be the same temperature when you add them. I can't test bc I don't work there anymore, but yea.

When I'm register and they ask for it, I clarify. Actually upside-down, or stirred because my barista on bar will make it exactly how you ask for it and we have two buttons, stirred it upside-down.

We literally have a regular who will whole heartedly tell us to use 1/2-1/1 of a caramel drizzle bottle. She will complain and yell and get verbally agressive when we obviously tell her no. Some of us cave in whilst the rest take it. She recently came in and I saw she had a dexcom. I wasnt that surprised

Idk what way is petty and what isn’t but I do all the steps in the opposite order unless they’re just saying they want it mixed then it’s like a latte. If they’re in the cafe I asked and most just want it like a latte, if it was mobile or DTO without clarification then yeah it’s literally upside down because that’s what it is. I didn’t think it was petty I thought that’s just doing the order as written.

I've worked here for four years and there's those customers for sure, but I could never say that.

If it's a mobile order, "Upside Down" is a modifier under "Espresso & Shot Options," so have fun I guess, but be prepared to remake it.

Drizzle, ice, shots, milk. Drizzle on bottom only, ice then shots to make the ice melt, faster, then milk on top because the ice keeps it separate

How? I was working in one of the busiest drive thrus in Washington state and this is literally how we make them unless we know the customer wants it mixed. And when I worked at a small cafe it was easier to ask the customer directly and more often it’d be mixed.

i always do and i’m the only one in my store who layers it upside down

there was this one time a lady asked for it upside down expecting it to be stirred and she even said “bc last time they actually made it upside down” and i was in my head like “yep that was me” and then explained she can just asked for it stirred

I used to. People would say "AUGH, I CAN'T DRINK THIS. I USE MY STRAW AND JUST GET CARAMEL DRIZZLE." Like, your first and only mistake was using a straw on a sippy cup.
