Do any of you feel as though you were adequately trained? How do you get tasks accomplished in your day, do you assign them or do you just do them yourselves? How do the baristas you supervise respond to you?

My shift training was a single night of closing with my SM and a single opening shift with another SSV months later. When I told my manager I felt like I hadn't been trained properly, she told me thats typically how starbucks works and you learn as you go.
I typically run my shifts by having baristas fill all the positions on the floor and I keep customer support/a slow position to myself, that way I can get tasking and closing done how I like it.
I ask baristas to help me with tasks in their downtime, but I have them busting their butts on the floor while I bust my butt keeping the store together. Key word is that I ask, instead of command, and they appreciate that.

Honestly, I felt like I wasn’t trained properly at all. I never even finished my modules until I was about 2 months in role. The other SSVs tried to prepare me by showing me what had to be done and then after that I was ”trained”. I had to learn the hard way by opening 6x for two weeks because my SM approved two SSV vacations 😭

I’m an opener now and am just amazed. My issue is that I constantly get feedback that’s snippy or uptight because I’m asking them to do “their job”. It’s a little frustrating.

I feel like running the floor and delegation of tasks is easy at my store because everyone is rotated around & is held responsible for learning the side work of each position, but I was trained exactly once in ordering and to learn (and mess up) as I went along. I ordered 10 boxes of Sriracha once, oops.

Can’t say I’ve royally messed up in ordering. It’s mainly product we’ll use (like an extra box of g/v lids, or say…an extra box of mocha) but every store has different pars. But if I’m not running the shift then some obscure things, like milk rotating or change order, or even something like condensing the fridge isn’t done. I work in a city area and I honestly don’t know when trash is supposed to be placed out front since it’s an afternoon thing.
