So Long story short, I got a week on reg and due to scheduling errors, I only ended up getting 3 days on bar, I understand most of the drinks but tomorrow I'm kinda just getting throw to the wolves at my home store. I'm worried that tomorrow I'm just going to be fucking up everyone's drinks, So If any of you fellow baristas have any advice, I'm all ears

In the interest of full disclosure, that's more training than I ever saw someone have at my store, myself included. You'll be fine

Also, the shifts know you're new. They're not gonna expect you to be perfect, everyone knows frhat you're not 100% fresh outta training. If you're worried just voice your concerns to your shift, they'll help you out

Everyone messes up a lot. Just ask questions and if you get too overwhelmed tell your shift.

Although let me tell you at my old store most of the SSVs hesitated to put greenies on bar because we were a really high volume DT store. So I was getting almost no bar time for close to a month. But we had one shift who saw it happening and so he threw me on bar every shift for a week during peak after having almost no practice any shift and he just let me drown (while watching from a distance). I hated him, I hated bar, but after that week of dying I could bar at any part of the day as fast as everyone else - and yes that shift was a total a-hole 99% of the time but he’s the only reason I didn’t get stuck on DTO/Window all day every shift anymore. lol

So don’t be afraid to suck for a little while, it happens to just about everyone in the beginning.

i got no training on bar, so id say youre already off to a good start lol. and im a trainer now, who woulda thunk it.

but seriously, all jokes aside i wouldnt worry too much. everyone makes mistakes, new or not. the most important thing is to ask for help whenever you need it, and i do mean whenever. the ipads are also your best friend, the store resources app has all the recipes you need if you get really tripped up. but dont forget to trust yourself too. and if your shift is during a busier time, dont hesitate to tell your shift managers you dont feel confortable yet doing bar on your own at that pace.

just dont forget that your partners and managers are supposed to be there to help you. we were all new once. support is important, so be sure to utilize it! 💕
