How can I learn register? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by shrekstomatos
Today was my first day (I know I shouldn’t be perfect yet dw) but I was wondering if there was any resources online to learn register? I was on it today and was having trouble. I wish there was almost like a practice website or something, but please lmk of any tips you guys have!

Hii!! So what I did when I first started was take a picture of each section of the register and just went off by that. Trust me you’ll learn it in no time!!

other than taking photos of register, when i get put on it and i don’t have any customers i play with it. i’ve done it since i started and i think that’s what helped me get better at it.

just like click through ever section and make note of what’s there. hit buttons and make fake drinks, just don’t send them through.

it takes a minute to get the hang of it
i took photos of every single page on my downtime so i could look over it when i was off the clock

somethings that helped me:

it helps to note what kind of drink would be in what folder so its easier to navigate

ex.
a frappuccino is a blended drink, would be in 'blended' folder

a regular pike place is brewed, would be in 'brewed' folder!

a latte or caramel macchiato uses espresso shots, would be in 'espresso' folder

so on and so forth :)

another thing that my fellow baristas told me about was the milk section

say someone orders a coffee with a splash of 2% milk,

one of the most important things to remember is you gotta press the "with almondmilk" button instead pressing "almondmilk" because it would charge .80 cents for just a few inches of milk

you'd use the "almondmilk" button when someone wants to use another milk instead the default "2% milk"

good luck and didn't bear yourself up if you don't remember things easily

Greetings

arissajamz made a good reccomendation. I would add that while studying outside the job can be helpful, you will learn most concretely through consistent practice on the job. As long as you are dilligent, willing to learn, and patient/calm, experience will be the most effective teacher.

you can always just mess around on the app and see the drinks + customizations and try to place where they would be mentally

Also anytime your up front play with the computer and you can also see wha comes in drinks like pumps shots etc and learn the menu as well hope that helps

I wanted to find something similar when I started, but honestly you get the hang of it before you know it, won't be long til you can ring it up faster than they can say it. Maybe it's worth it if it's stressing you out too much, but tbh I don't like the idea of doing unpaid training for them
