Do we get covid pay? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Broad-Flounder-4971
A partner I worked with for a few days reported close contact with a covid positive person. I wear my mask everywhere I go (including work), but I am having a pretty gnarly sore throat. I cannot afford to just not work, so I’m curious if I end up testing positive will I get paid for the days I’m meant to isolate? Or will I be forced to work while covid positive and risk infecting others? I have fibromyalgia so I might not even be able to work as immune system responses end up causing me excruciating pain, but I’ll do what I have to to provide for my family. 😭

You isolate if you're covid positive. You are allowed 1 instance per quarter. The quarter just started and goes through the end of Sept. Isolation period is for 5 days. Feel better starbuddy!
ETA : you'll get paid for whatever shifts you were scheduled for through covid pay. No isolating for symptoms or exposure though. Maybe just get tested.

It was changed in May(?) to 1 when we adjusted and updated the isolation

I was wondering the same question and had asked my store manager this question, they left me on read the remaining time and so I put up my shifts so I wouldn't get backlash. Now im negative and updated them and they responded, ignoring my previous text. It sucks because like everyone in this economy I can't afford to not be making no money :(

Do not go into work knowing you have Covid 😭 are you willing to put your partners at the same risk you’re describing? I understand not being able to afford not to work, but you will be putting everyone at your store in that same position if you choose to show up with positive results.

If it’s between having air conditioning in 116 degree heat for my children versus potentially exposing others, I’m sorry that I choose to protect my children? Maybe it shouldn’t be that kind of ultimatum, but I already wear a mask everyday to work and have not stopped any covid precautions. I’m doing everything right, and I’m tired of being punished. Either I am paid to stay home or I have to work. 🤷‍♀️

Please don't work sick.

Clearly it doesn’t look like I’ll have to, but I don’t have the luxury of a choice. I’ve got small children who rely on me to survive. It’s either work and get paid or stay home and get paid, but I have to get paid. Bills don’t disappear just because a coworker exposed me to covid.

I'm sure your kids are wonderful, but the partners you might potentially infect might have kids that they think are wonderful too.

If you knowingly work sick, that violates the Covid coach you sign off on every morning. You can be fired for that. That's also bad for your kids.

All you need to do is tell your manager you tested positive and you will be paid for the five days you have to miss.

Yeah, as an immunocompromised ssv if I knew you knowingly came into work with covid and put me and MY kids at risk, I'd be raising hell to get YOU at the very least taken on any shift with me ever again, and at the very worst gone from the company for good 🤷‍♂️. I agree this system is fucked, and Starbucks treats us like dirt. But, putting everyone else at risk isn't the answer, I hope you took the test and were able to get paid for the time you missed. But, this was so incredibly immature and selfish. I have kids too, and I do what I need for them but not at the expense of others and their wellbeing. We all share this space and deal with a tremendous amount of bullshit. We're supposed to have solidarity with one another not potentially kill each other

I’m also immunocompromised. I literally just don’t want to be homeless 😅
