Are we not even allowed to make our own drinks? (self.starbucksbaristas)

I make my own drinks. I usually wait to pull shots until one of our bars are not occupied if I make an espresso drink. But our store doesn’t care if you cut in line or if you ring it up before/after making it. Probably just depends on how chill the store is!

Yeah the only tricky part is to not get in the way of a barista. Our bar can be a bit tight anyways. Ofc we should be prioritizing the espresso que according to customer drinks.

Generally I feel like my store is pretty chill. Esp my manager and her rules should take precedence. We have a really chill barista that gives her friend-customers free “partner bevs” and even free food depending on her mood. She’s technically stealing, but is liked by all and nobody bats an eye; and I don’t mind it either it’s not like sbux is at a deficit.

I just think it feels unfair bc most other partners make their own drinks, I just don’t get the reasoning.

This is why I work night shift. Can do whatever 🤪

by standard we aren’t allowed to make it ourselves because it can be seen as theft if you take more than what you marked out. that being said i make my own drink unless i see my SM/certain SSVs working. even if there’s not a single person in the cafe and bar is completely caught up, i’ll still be waiting about 10-15 minutes for a grande iced latte. a few of my coworkers will also assume i made it (even though i haven’t walked behind the bar & always tell them if i made it???) and just straight up throw my ticket away without telling me.

I’m not sure what policy technically is. My manager says we’re not supposed to make our own drink/food while the store is open. But if she isn’t there I make my own drinks and let my baristas do the same. I have other things to worry about.

It is seen as theft in the eyes of corporate coz you could mark out one thing and then take whatever you want. Back in the old days my store had a habit of marking out something like a regular SAR but actually making a crazy complicated drink, or like the Starbucks Doubleshot on Ice but actually making it with sweet cream and stuff. It's only a few dollars but corporate has to slurp up every last penny they can

That doesn’t make sense to me. Since it’s a “partner beverage” and so it’s free regardless of how it’s made. Most of us get Venti drinks with crazy syrups and milk substitutes anyways bc it’s free when we’re working. I don’t see how it can be considered theft unless we’re pumping a cup of chai, but in that case everyone it will be pretty obvious that we’re stealing anyways

you’d be surprised how many people mark out a tall whatever and then make a trenta. it’s like, your drink is FREE why are you acting like you’re paying for it??

I have a partner who does that with certain things and then also turns around and rings this 1 guy up who comes in a couple tikes a week and gets a grande pike with 4 shots in it and this same partner also only charges this customer for only 4 shots and not a pike along with it...just the 4 shots 😬

It's free to employees, but corporate has to accommodate for the loss! If you mark out a tall latte and then go make a venti frappuccino or something, to corporate they think you marked out a $4 drink when in actuality your drink probably cost $7-$8.

Does that make sense? I'm responding in the middle of work so I might not explain it well lol but that's my understanding of the way corporate sees it and why people get fired for it sometimes!

I open and my break is usually between 6 and 6:30. All us early folks make our own drinks as there is a single person on bar at that time of morning and adding to their work is mean.

That said, I'll give them a hand with cold bar while my shots are pulling if they need that help.

My store is kinda like this technically they say no but most people do if it’s not busy/SM isn’t there. My SM makes us clock out BEFORE even ordering but like I said most of us don’t when she’s not there. I think it kinda depends on the store tho?

If it’s busy tho and I have to use the expresso bar I’ll just let someone else make it otherwise I feel like I’m in the way
