to start: i am traumatised. basically, i had no food orders and i had just restocked all the pastries. so i’m waiting around. i get a front (again, no food when the front comes up). i finish up with the front and come to see all these 🥲

it may have been 11am but working since 5:30am made 11am feel like 3pm at that point in time. i was a borrowed partner for that store today. i come from a cafe only store and coming from there made me forget just how much dt stores go through. i’m so sorry for y’all. sending you all the love 🫶

I was an opener at a DT store. This is basically what our warming area looked like from 6 am till 1 pm. Didn't matter how good our oven person was, we could never keep it under 10 or so backed up stickers until after lunch

this makes me think of this morning when i walked into work and we had a FIFTY FIVE item order. 😭😭😭😭

I know that feeling. When it's mostly breakfast sandwiches... Horrible 😭

Tbh, I can see why OP pulled the stickers.

If I saw that first delivery order sticker with 1 of 5, I would pull all five instinctually to see if there are any doubles of anything, so I can throw two in at once.

But after pulling those five... I see 1 of 3 for DT.... so I put the delivery on the backburner in my mind and pull the DT stickers. Because y'all know the expectation is to get DT their food asap.

Then after I get those DT stickers, I see behind that 1 of 6 for cafe.... and my brain immediately goes... okay, I know people still ordering food in DT... and if I had to flex to POS, I probably didn't have my headset on my ear to hear the DT food orders. So MAYBE if I pull these cafe stickers, I can combine stuff in the oven with the original delivery and this cafe order with DT food still coming in....

....is that just me? lol

I would definitely (and do) pull all the stickers for the sake of batching and also so cafe or drive thru orders could be made first.
cookiemonstah87 2 points 1y ago
Same. We got so insanely backed up if we didn't. We would put the stickers on bags, grab all the food, put like with like, and stage everything in as close to the order they came in as possible
[deleted] [OP] 1 points 1y ago
this was exactly my thought process. i’m just so confused as to why some comments were like “wHY arE YoU pULliNG sTicKErS”

like so i can batch. duh

also, i didn’t have a headset on so i couldn’t obv hear the dt orders and even if i could, it’s not like i could walk away from the customer in front that i was helping.

I know this doesn’t compare but I had a lady today order two wraps and a breakfast sandwich on mobile and literally showed up to DT 2 seconds later asking for her food. This was during peak when I already had food backed up. I considered undercooking the wraps 😂. I didn’t tho. Screw mobile orderers who show up 5 seconds later in drive through. It will not be ready!!!!
cookiemonstah87 2 points 1y ago
I only worked at the bux for a few months, but I lost count of the number of people who would pull up to the speaker and say "we're just placing a mobile order!" *you're already at the speaker, just order now!!!*

Depending on who was DTO, some would tell them "oh, ok! In that case, I'll have to ask you to pull back around. Once you get back through the line, your order should be up!"

i wish we could do this where i work but ik the stores i’ve worked at are more by the book than anything and ik someone would get in trouble if they tried pulling something like this
cookiemonstah87 2 points 1y ago
Our shifts even did it because they were trying to make sure drive-thru times wouldn't end up stupid long due to multiple people per day pulling the same thing
[deleted] [OP] 1 points 1y ago
literally afterwards i went to cafe/mobile bar and then i hear on the headset “hi i had a mobile for Victor” and there were no cars in dt. so the person on dt looks over at me and thankfully she spoke the same language i did (not english) and i said “between you and me, he JUST placed the order in 2 seconds ago. give me a minute” i had 5 other stickers to do as well 🥲

hated victor with a burning passion bc like i work at a cafe only store and it’s been forever since i worked at a dt store. my first store was a dt store… but after switching over to cafe only, honestly there was no going back to dt permanently for me. like i don’t mind being a borrowed partner… but to work every day at a dt store, no. so anyways, that victor interaction just reminded me how much s*** dt stores get and how much more stressful it is and i was like “i’m not putting up with this”

Reminds me of that one day that I had a morning shift and wanted to get right into work, and was put on warming. Apparently there was a big gathering happening in the cafe and there was so many food items that kept getting backed up. I managed to get through it all, but during peak, that’s crazy. There hasn’t been anyone on warming for awhile because of other issues too. :p
Edit: spelling
[deleted] [OP] 1 points 1y ago
other issues 👀 do explain
MoonCatlol 2 points 1y ago

Edit: I think something was broken and they were prioritizing fixing that? So whoever was fixing that had to get their spot covered by the warming person.

why are you pulling all of the stickers… 🤦‍♂️
billowwark 3 points 1y ago
What do you mean by this? Should you not put them all up? I just started training this week and have worked ovens for like 2 hours total so I’m confused.
0x52and1x52 2 points 1y ago
You should pull the ones that you’re working on, with the ticket on the printer being the next one that you throw in. It is by far the least stressful, most efficient way to work in any position (hot bar, cold bar, warming) and prevents any orders from getting skipped over. We used to have label printers that would print continuously but Starbucks switched us to these ones for the reasons listed above. Unfortunately, soooo many partners don’t realize how it helps them and why it’s like that so they just do what the OP did.
cookiemonstah87 2 points 1y ago
I got yelled at if I didn't pull all of them because it was expected that we stage everything. We pulled all the stickers, got the first few things in the oven, and then spent that time sticking the rest of the stickers on bags and staging everything. We couldn't even pretend to keep up with our drive-thru if we just went entirely in order, especially with about 20 mobile orders coming up at once
0x52and1x52 1 points 1y ago
Headset to prioritize DT orders, DPM to force print and look ahead. It’s not coached enough so many seasoned partners have this bad habit so I’m not shocked someone would tell you to do otherwise. I work at a higher volume store in SoCal though and can assure you this is the way to do it. Both ovens should always be busy, nothing comes out without something going in, non-warmed pastries while ovens are cooking, etc.

In the OP’s case, all of those would take less than 2 minutes lol.
[deleted] [OP] 1 points 1y ago
you should pull stickers during peak so you’re able to properly batch. if you do solely the ones you’re working on and then go onto the next you’re going to be super slow.

This was my first thought lmao
