New Starbucks Hours Policy(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by secretbox-22
My manager informed me that there’s a new policy where we have to be available to work at least 18 hrs/week and work at least 12 hrs/week, is this true? If so, I’m honestly glad to know that we are guaranteed at least 12 hours a week. So they can’t pull that cutting hours shit.

You are not guaranteed anything, so far as I know.

Damn, so what’s the purpose of this?

I think it's to stop stores from having people who work one day a week. Partners who work once or twice a week are hard to train and give consistent service.

It’s not a new policy but a really old one that is rarely enforced as most stores don’t have the problem with lots of people getting less than 12 hrs. The corporate goal is an average of 20 per partner per store to ensure everyone has access to benefits. In the partner guide it explains the availability of partners must match the store need. This rule is most often used/ enforced when the store has availability needs but no hours to hire a new partner. For example they need an opener on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s and no one is available and if they hire a new person that cuts the hours of everyone. Part time availability minimum requirements are 150% of targeted hours. So yes 18 hrs available to get 12 or like 30 hrs available to get like 20, but full time is 75% of total store operating hours. Full time is usually considered to be more than 30. Again this old rule is rarely enforced unless everyone has terrible availability and it’s hard to complete a schedule.

that's what i heard too and honestly, i don't really like it. i was hired for 30+ hours a week and can work more than 40 if the business needs it, so it doesn't really affect me... aside from when i want to take a vacation (been here less than a year) because i won't accumulate enough vacation time in order to go see my best friend or my family. i go for usually just a week, but... it definitely kinda sucks :(

I saw this policy. I guess it’s true.

That isn't knew but sounds like it wasn't being enforced. Its about you working when scheduled. It's no guarantee of hours
