Reconsidering reapplying to Starbucks (ex-employee, currently working at Dutchbros-like coffeeshop) (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Electronic_Effort288
So, I worked at Starbucks for about 18 months and quit October 2020. I then switched to a job like Dutchbros where I’m outside in 105 degree weather for hours while listening to extremely loud music and putting on a show for customers. It’s tiresome and since my current company is smaller, the rules are loosely regulated and I don’t have insurance. In fact, the only perks I have is unlimited free drinks.

When I worked at Starbucks, I used to get frustrated with how “corporate” Starbucks was and, of course, how little they paid. At my current job, I make 9 an hour + cash AND digital tips, which eventually ups itself to 16-17 being a shift lead. I work 35-37 hours a week as a student though, which is hard and expected now that I have gotten a shift lead position, so I cannot move from that really unless I step down, which may put me under when hours get cut or whatever else.

Anyways, I miss the chill atmosphere that Starbucks has and the perks. Also, seeing that pay is increasing to 15/hr, I’m really, really reconsidering applying. It’s also worth mentioning that y’all are also getting digital tips too it looks like ? Like sign me up fr

So, I’m asking for opinions. What are y’all’s general opinions on the company now and what has changed since late 2020?

The actual Dutch bros is really good to their employees… I walked out of Starbucks a few months ago, I miss my co-workers and some of the regulars that’s it. But I was living in one of the most expensive zip codes on the west coast and barely made over $15/hr the cheapest studio apartment in that area was pretty much 100% of my FT monthly pay.

I’ve heard! Lots of my old coworkers have moved to Dutchbros, but in my area Dutchbros paychecks come out to be 400-500 less a month on average than my current job. I don’t know why exactly especially since their base pay 2.50 more than my current job, but likely because their customer base is small in the area.

$15 an hour for everyone starting in august. I think it means shifts get like $19.

Credit card tips won’t be until the end of the year.

Still sounds pretty good to me!

It depends on the area you are in, the current starting pay could already be $15 depending where you live.
I just know currently that the $15/hr is only for the baristas who were hired on May 1st, 2022 and before then. Not sure if it would apply to you considering you are a rehire.
