I work at a Starbucks in a grocery store and I hate it. Not because of customers or making drinks, I actually like talking to people and learning new things. The people I work with are just weird.

On my first day, one of my coworkers said something negative about the job. Then my manager started talking poorly about that coworker behind their back and I got sucked in and repeated what that coworker had told me, which ended up getting them a write up because my manager told the grocery store manager. So that coworker now hates me.

Yesterday at work I was a bit sleepy but I was doing well, especially since we get one customer maybe every 5 minutes. My manager texts me today asking if I am okay because the girl I was working with yesterday told her I was unhappy there yesterday.

It seems like everyone just talks about everyone and I got sucked into it (my fault completely and I apologized to my coworker) and it is SO SLOW. But I feel like if I quit it is awkward because I have only been here 2 weeks. What should I do?

Apply somewhere else and get a job before quitting. It's easier to get a job if you have a job.

Alternatively just keep it super professional at work. Don't talk about other/watch what you say. Less is more sort of idea.

If you think you can keep your head down and out of drama then stay. But I just left a job after 3 years because of a toxic work environment like that (where yes even the managers were involved) and I’ve never felt better. If managers are just talking shit rather than addressing concerns then they’re probably a poor manager. And they’re only going to make your life hell as well. I’ve experienced it. Try and see if another Starbucks around is hiring. Or just find a new job altogether.

Leaving after a certain period of time isn’t awkward. They showed you quickly how bad of a choice that place is. Never stay somewhere because of reasons like that. If you’re uncomfortable, then you are uncomfortable. And it’s your responsibility to make the adjustments. But I would definitely recommend having another place in line before just handing in your notice.

My advice is to try harder not to get sucked into the negativity

Sounds a lot like my store. I just started there and the same thing is happening. Can't wait to leave after summer for college. 😩

Quit if you don’t feel good with your coworkers. Having good partners is pretty much one of the only things that makes the job tolerable. I loved my partners they were amazing people. I can’t imagine staying as long as I did if it wasn’t for that.
