What’s the standard way to cook the grilled cheese.(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by FlowerCurious581
At my store they cook the grilled cheese so the butter is on the bottom, it tastes wrong that way.
HappyBarista41 points1y ago
The standard is butter side down.
If I make it for myself I cook it butter side up bc I want the butter to go down into the sandwich, not all over the oven!

Drunk at around two AM. I like to use two cast iron pans, a larger one for the sandwich and a smaller one that you hear up and place on top like a panini press. Don't go too crazy with cheese choices and make sure you use a lot of butter and for goodness sake, don't try to get fancy and add any extra ingredients into the sandwich, it's already perfect and anything added will only take away from the sandwich. Tomato soup is the classic partner, but not at all necessary and seems like far too much effort at that time of night.

Here's a sneak peek of /r/grilledcheese using the $1 of the year!
It's amazing how many people do things wrong when the instructions are literally on the box
cookiemonstah873 points1y ago
Who has time to read while working ovens?
FlowerCurious581 [OP]3 points1y ago
I’m on my break at work now and on nowhere on the wrapper does it have instructions
starbucksbarist281 points1y ago
Just posted a picture of the label that says it it on this page.
fuwaldah1 points1y ago
At my store it does. Weird.

Some stores have the retail sandwiches (they go in the case out front) and as far as I’ve seen they don’t have warming instructions
fuwaldah1 points1y ago
They're out front in my store. They have the instructions on them.

I'm pretty sure butter down is the standard

Butter side down. For cheat week, butter side down with extra butter on top before it goes in the oven.
ArialynnSilver3 points1y ago
No one told me butter down...I have always done butter up
Only-Dog73162 points1y ago
Butter side up makes a nice golden brown and is how I cook it for myself and butter down is the gross way we are supposed to make it.
FlowerCurious581 [OP]1 points1y ago
I’m getting ahold of the ceo to get the truth about how to cook it
RaginRuth2 points1y ago
Wow... we always put butter side up.
Every single time butter side was down. Someone burned themselves...
overturned232 points1y ago
Butter side down. Be careful because you can burn yourself
philosopher_cat_lady2 points1y ago
That's the correct way, it says so on the bag
FlowerCurious581 [OP]2 points1y ago
The bag here doesn’t say anything

The old standard was actually butter side up! In the last few years, it was changed to butter side down (you can also find it on Store Resources on the iPads)
StellarOdyssey961 points1y ago
Butter side down is crispier. I used to argue with my barista about it but I eventually conceded and realized I liked it way better that way
Edit: also like everyone in here is saying, it’s the standard
starbucksbarist281 points1y ago
It literally says butter side down on the package 😭 I feel like this is something that partners are always arguing about
FlowerCurious581 [OP]1 points1y ago
I’d love to see proof of that, the wrappers here have no such instructions
starbucksbarist281 points1y ago
That’s the closest thing I can find, I don’t work for a couple days but I’ll snap a picture when I work next :)

I read somewhere there's a weekly update that changed it tho?
cookiemonstah876 points1y ago
I was told it was updated to butter yup. Also not sure how all these people have time to read wrappers while on ovens, especially when someone orders a grilled cheese!

When they first came out I was lectured time and time again butter up because it makes less grease and so less chance of a fire, but they haven’t really been that greasy lately. Butter up make a cloud of smoke sometimes so choose your enemy I guess
