unpopular opinion: i would rather work an 8+hr shift than a 5.5-5.75hr one (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by witchyybabe
yeah, you're there for longer, but at least you get consistent breaks. 5.75 shifts are the most miserable thing on the planet, actually. why does someone who is there for 15 minutes more than you get 40 more minutes of breaks?? i'm Tired bro

I agree, if I have to get up and get ready for work I may as well work a full 8 hours and make some more money. actually going in to work is the worst part
ladysingtheblues 16 points 1y ago
They sometimes schedule me for little baby 4-hr shifts, hate that shit so much
Necessary_Low939 8 points 1y ago
I love those 👀
Buttafly_360 0 points 1y ago
No ma'am, I need my 30 during a shift💯
Necessary_Low939 3 points 1y ago
I just eat during my ten. I work nights so I can eat in between too
taintwest 3 points 1y ago
I used to get a lot of 5am-9am bebe shifts when I was still in school. It was exhausting by the end of the week.
ladysingtheblues 2 points 1y ago
Yeah for me at least any shift tends to occupy my focus and energy for the day so I do like getting more bang for my buck
ladysingtheblues 27 points 1y ago
No yeah absolutely. It always feels like it passes faster, all the most brutal shifts are 5.5
Quiquiq 18 points 1y ago
And you have time to get stuff done. With the shorter shift they still expect you to do the same amount of cleaning, prep, and closing tasks with less time and with less help from earlier shifts that have been ridiculously condensed as well.

30 minutes if those breaks are unpaid. If those are my options I’d rather take the 5.75 day then 6 and only get paid 5.5 of it.
witchyybabe [OP] 12 points 1y ago
i personally would gladly sacrifice like $3.50 for my sanity and feet but that's fair lmao
lcvefoolish 16 points 1y ago
lowkey i hate taking breaks and i don’t like eating in public lmao so i’m thankful i usually have 5 hour shifts 😭 i’m also an opener and if i work later than, like, noon, i am just so bored and the hours stretch on foreverrrrr. i need that morning rush of constant stress and terror 💕
devilsreject4926 6 points 1y ago
I love taking breaks bc my shift is the only time I can eat cuz it's free and I keep passing out in the bathroom bc I'm so fucking hungry lmao wanna trade
lcvefoolish 4 points 1y ago
i already lived off of work food or didn’t eat bc i was so poor when i was in grad school so i’ll pass but ty for the offer!!
devilsreject4926 4 points 1y ago
It tastes so awful after a while lol I hate starbucks food now
uncomfortableaf008 4 points 1y ago
I’m sorry you’re going through that friend. Make sure you don’t forget about the 7 food items a week, I know that’s not enough to live off of but if you have a couple days off make sure you take home that free food for later :)
Responsible_Snow7109 3 points 1y ago
Lolol i feel ya. I feel the same exact way. I dont like to take breaks cuz i just cant sit still and dont like to really eat any of our stuff. Like for me... if im guna be at work, i would rather be getting paid for it. I dont wana take a half hour unpaid break and be at work. Its extra unnecessary time spent at work and not being paid. I dont wana be at starbucks unless im getting paid for all of it lol
floofxs2 7 points 1y ago
Opening shift 8hrs. I love opening.
lewabwee 5 points 1y ago
Well needing money aside I don’t even care about breaks. I’d rather be there for the least amount of time possible and go home as soon as possible and stop being there.
redcheekboy 3 points 1y ago
Me and a couple other partners at my store work four 10 hour shifts per week. I open so I work 530 to 4 most days.

It's a mixed bag. The three day weekend is really nice, but the extra 2 hours is actually more taxing than I thought. I often just crash and sleep the first day off because I rarely get more than 4-5 hours of sleep on my work days
rosaliecrowe 3 points 1y ago
I would work a 4 day 10 hour work week, much better to have a three day weekend
jams1015 3 points 1y ago
Small correction: They get 30 minutes more of a break than you do, but they're not paid for it.
dkr1829 2 points 1y ago
Same, i hate it when they put me in 2-7pm instead of my usual 2-8 on friday. It feels like the day never comes to an end and am freakin starved after all those fraps wave.
lady_victory 2 points 1y ago
My manager scheduled me 11-3:45 today. It’s like I can barely do anything before or after work at that point on a Sunday. So annoying
Assaurer 2 points 1y ago
Man I’d love to have a 5.75hr shift over a four hour shift. But yeah 8 hours would be the goal. Working almost every day but 4 hour shifts is dumb and a quick way to get burnt out while still needing more hours
shipssiren 1 points 11m ago
I clocked in early, stayed later, and I had to take two tens instead because a shift decided she felt "bad" and left
Deadrax502 1 points 1y ago
Facts!!! As long as it’s not a mid day I love 8+ hr shifts. I usually work 5-2 and it’s so nice to get a lunch and 2 breaks.
Old_Specific_1233 1 points 1y ago
so i do have medication reasons for this but on the 5.5 shifts i've been given two 10s and it's really helped :)
RubySapphireSage 1 points 1y ago
I love a 3-4 I can’t stand my job there anymore but not many places are willing to pay as much as them during the raise .

Id switch you in a heartbeat
