nah because the trash thing is one thing but going to the bathroom while wearing your apron is just laziness and unhygienic and is literally disgusting that you admit that out loud
goofygoobered 18 points 1y ago

It is unhygienic to bring an apron into a bathroom. Every time the toilet flushes, urine and feces flies into the air in a six-foot sphere around the toilet.

Fairly sure those are health code things, not just a random Starbucks thing. I don’t want someone cleaning the bathroom or taking out the trash and then coming and making my drink wearing the same apron. Just bring a change of clothes, and keep those tasks in mind when you’re getting dressed for work.

I’ve seen people make trash bag ponchos. I’ve been doing this for almost half my life. I’ve never really been too concerned about it. I know from way back when we had to wear polos and black pants or khakis that having a set of clothes that are work specific is a very good idea.

I really don’t think it’s Starbucks responsibility to worry about your laundry lol. I’m not being mean, I just mean I understand your point but I’d never argue it. I change clothes once I get home regardless of what I wear because I have work clothes and home clothes. If I work, I’m going to get coffee on me. Probably a little garbage juice. If I’m lucky, it won’t be chai in my shoe again. It’s part of the job. I don’t ruin my nice clothes by wearing them to work.

Yo the thought of somebody wearing their apron while cleaning a dirty bathroom, or while hauling nasty leaking trash bags, then going back behind bar to handle drinks... That's kinda foul.

Maybe that's my unpopular opinion... But if you got trash juice or dookie particles on your apron and you also are the type to wipe your hands on your apron and not wash them afterwards... Eugh

Your opinion is against health code. An apron's purpose is to prevent bacteria from your clothes from getting onto the food you're handling. That's why you're supposed to take it off before you take the trash out or go in a restroom. You're also supposed to wear a clean one. If your coworkers are not washing their aprons and wearing clean ones, complain to your manager.

One time a customer called our store to complain about how filthy a barista's apron was. She was right, it's common for baristas to not wash their aprons on a frequent basis. I think this is partly due to ignorance about what the purpose of the apron is. It's not a uniform. It's a sanitation device.

I don’t understand ppl that don’t wash it like I don’t wash it every single time i wear it (maybe ur supposed to) but like every couple days i throw it in the laundry with the other clothes i need to wash and wear the other one a couple days and repeat. It’s rlly not any more inconvenient then washing ur regular clothes like you always would

I took home aprons that baristas left behind when they quit, so I ended up with a ton of them. So it was really convenient to wear a fresh one. I've got sugar ants in my car, so when I put my apron in my car after my shift, ants get attracted to it so I've got to wear a fresh one to work

:0 ants in ur pants barista edition
philosopher_cat_lady 1 points 11m ago
I know, I can't figure out how to get rid of them. I put traps but I've still got ants

Hi there! Pastry chef here, I can explain this as it’s a major health code concern. This can cause breakouts of things like hepatitis and is extremely unsanitary! Whether you feel annoyed by it or not, things like these keep customers and partners safe.

lol what…. we work with food and mostly drinks why wear good clothes to a place you will get coffee and milk on your clothes even with the apron on it happens… wearing your apron in the bathroom is honestly kinda nasty…

You’re telling me you wear your apron to the bathroom and dumpster then go make drinks and handle food like that? There’s a reason why it’s a health code regulation. I’m sure you wouldn’t want another person handling your food that way. That being said, I do trash and bathrooms almost daily and never have an issue with getting restroom cleaner on my clothes or trash on me. Just be mindful when doing those tasks or bring a change of clothes when going out somewhere after work

It’s actually a food safety requirement to remove your apron when you exit from behind the counter/your station (for some states at least), not something just in place for Starbucks.
philosopher_cat_lady 5 points 1y ago
You're also not supposed to wear your apron outside or place it on a counter

If I’m taking trash from front of house to back of house/changing out trash bins I was told we don’t have to take off aprons (from our SM), but when we take trash out to the dumpster we do. I get that, but the thing is, I’m short and there’s a good chance dirt from the bags ends up on me somewhere, how is my apron really protecting anything when I go back on the floor. Doesn’t make sense either way. I personally prefer to do any of these kinds of tasks at the end of my shift, but I rarely go anywhere after work.
