Standard for handling personal cups? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Kindly-Trust7211
what’s the standard for personal cups? it’s been an ongoing disagreement between baristas at my store and I’ve also had different managers tell me different things😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫I thought we could touch them and every time I’ve brought a cup to another store it hasn’t been “contactless” either. anyone actually know?

Pretty sure the policy can be found in the Beverage Resource Manual.

Unless it's changed since 2019, policy is to take the cup, rinse/wash it (I think the manual actually asks it to be sanitised in the back lmfao), but don't put the cup on any mastrenas. Shots get poured into shot glasses and dumped in, instead of directly into the cup.

I think the idea is that even though we wash it, it shouldn't come into contact with any of our equipment or tools

As far as I know this is the most recent information:

$1

Key points:

\- we should use for here serveware to avoid touching the customer's cup

\- only clean cups should be used and we shouldn't clean them (if the customer had a dirty cup I would personally still give them the 10 cent discount but explain that I can't accept it today and why)

Did it change since last year? I thought we were using the mug too until recently my manager said we didn’t have to do it anymore (Ik this is way more confusing than it needs to be) 🫥

I don’t think I’ve seen any updates in any trainings or weekly updates, but it’s been a while since June 2021 so maybe new information has come out since then

It might be a good idea to ask your SM where they are basing their information from (that way you also have a source of information to share if you ever need to coach it to other partners)
