I’m an offending call-out today(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by AdHuman5566
I call out once in a blue moon because I have crippling pain due to certain health issues. I call out at least once a month because of it and I’m just wondering if this is reasonable cause to eventually fire me. I’ve called out maybe 4-5 times this year and I’m always paranoid I’m going to be punished for it. I tried my best to find coverage and call other locations but no dice. How many call outs am I even entitled to before I receive corrective action?

I would get workplace accommodations to protect yourself

Yep, you can be fired for it if you haven't put in for workplace accommodations under the ADA. Eventually it will be seen as a lack of reliability and you can be terminated for it.
Most employers do a 3 strike rule but it varies at Starbucks

Once in a blue moon vs. once a month are very different things.
Have you asked your boss? Otherwise, get accommodations.

It’s honestly not as often as once a month but I have called out once this month and once last month and then again at the beginning of the year.

Depends on how many sick hours you have accrued. If you only have 5 but call out of an 8 hour shift, you can get in trouble. If you have more sick hours than the amount of hours you’re calling out of, you typically *should* be alright. But it also depends on how strict your SM is. I know mine only draws the line when we run out of sick hours.

Okay that’s good to know! I have over 40 sick hours

Just to clarify - if you are using job protected sick time every time you call out, you’re covered and can’t be punished for those call outs
