So I started about 4 weeks ago and I have only been doing front warming and drive thru, not really any bar time. My coworkers are not helpful and get visibly irritated with me when i have questions. I was even called slightly annoying and told to pick up my pace because we were behind. The people are not worth it to me, they all seem to have their own cliques and they aren’t very friendly. I’m not sure what to do. I’m debating on just quitting with no explanation. Any advice?

U started 4 weeks ago, how the hell are they getting mad at u for ur pace or for u asking questions? That shit is so annoying when baristas do that and act like that to new partners. First of all, u have only been there 4 weeks. Second, they get annoyed when u ask questions instead of efficiently answering ur questions in a kind manner when u have only been there for such a short amount of time so they cant expect u to go as fast as they think it should be. Sorry thats happening to u. One time i was on bar but i wasnt too new and i wasnt there long either but i was on bar and my one coworker told me to pick up the pace a little. In my head i was like okaaay but why does it have to be that my pace is slow and not that its just super busy with a ton of orders and people?

Right..! I would also rather do something slow and get it correct the first time than make a mistake by going faster. Thank you for understanding!!

Well it's totally okay for mistakes to happen! But also, your coworkers are wrong for getting annoyed when you ask questions because then it'll give off the vibe that you shouldn't ask questions and that's wrong. I just don't understand why at 4 weeks in that they expect you to be going as fast as whatever piece that they're thinking of at that time. They have to have patience and understanding because at one point, they were at the same point that you were in right now when they were trying to learn

I’m so sorry they’re behaving that way that is so uncool! Do you have any nice shift managers that aren’t doing that? If you do I would recommend going to them and seeing what they say or if they’ll do anything about it. If not might be time to go directly to your SM and see what they say, the only downside is that it might just make your coworkers more annoyed with you if they get in trouble for their behavior. If you have any experienced cool baristas in your store that aren’t rude to you, they can be good ally’s too, especially if it’s someone the rest of the store loves

Yes I’m kind of just in an awkward position about whether or not to tell someone about these issues or just push through 🥲
Toomanyboringpeople2 points11m ago
That’s fair! You should just go to a nice shift and be like “hey, this is an issue I’m having, what do you think I should do bc it’s making work really tough for me,” do u work mornings or evenings?

I am dealing with something very similar. I was hired for “customer service help” (as in our scores are low and they need help raising it) so I only do drive thru and front… every day… I’ve been working here like 2-3 months and I have not worked a single bar shift except for the ones where I trained. Don’t feel bad asking questions, if your ssv hasn’t put you on bar, then they cannot get mad. It is their job (my opinion) to spread you out and make sure that you are versatile in your knowledge/doing of the job. There’s a lot of quizlets online about the amounts of pumps and shots and more info about bar, so I would try that!!!! I wouldn’t quit but if you absolutely need to then don’t feel bad

Thank you for advice about the quizlets!! I have studied the book constantly I think the issue is just not being able to have physical practice if that makes sense 😆

No I defiantly get it I’m a hands on person

Quizlet. Starbucks training. Search it. It literally saved me this headache.

If u wanna learn, work closing shifts. U will learn more and people during closing are more chilled and don’t mind teaching u. Morning it’s just hard for everyone to be nice.

You can consider talking to your store manager about getting more bar time while it's slower so you can gain confidence.
Being annoyed at someone new is a major red flag for me. It screams toxic work environment. We were all new once and there are more drink combinations than ever now.
If your coworkers being rude doesn't get better, transfer stores. And tell them exactly why you're leaving.

If you can try moving to night crew, usually stares are more chill then and you can get way more bar time. And people being cliques are just pains in the ass! Of their whole world revolves around their job good for them but we got other things to do. Bring it up to your manager or shift supervisor, saying you really need more bar time and if it slows a bit if you can do that instead of warming and drive.
