What are all the benefits you get working at Starbucks?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by DoctorJust
In terms of pay, vacation, free drinks, etc
I work at a terrible coffee shop chain and we have a meeting with corporate
My last day is Sunday and I really feel like doing the most and comparing because all of our girls are wanting to leave this place

We're raising our start pay to 15 on August 1st. You get unlimited drinks during work hours and 7 free food items during the week you work for lunch. You can get up to 7 food items a day as long as you're working but then you can't have any more for the rest of the week so I always space mine out throughout the work week. They give you paid sick time and health insurance that isn't awful. You also get free Spotify. If there's something I'm missing, feel free to comment :) shift scheduling is always flexible and you get to pick the hours you would like to work.

Also discounts on things like nike and lenovo. Stock buying plans, 401k matching, donations matching. They have something called the "cup fund" which is baristas can round up and donate to the fund for other baristas in emergencies (like if your house burns down etc). Also a 30% discount at all corporate locations (this goes up to 40% in holiday season). And biggest of all is they pay 100% tuition to ASU for a bachelors degree.
Tricky-Figure837319 points11m ago
They also reimburse you $10,000 for adoption, surrogacy or Intrauterine Insemination for eligible partners, and gender reassignment surgery. They pay you to relocate if you’re moving to another state, $1 an hour for in-home backup child or adult care, $5 per child a day for in-center child care, and Lyft but partners say it’s shitty lol
duiopgffvf7 points11m ago
How do u get relocation $$? I’m moving and could use help w expenses. Already got my transfer for my new store
ConfusionDisastrous82 points11m ago
Relocation is for salaried partners if I'm not mistaken. You have to apply through benefits or calling prsc.
Tricky-Figure83731 points11m ago
But you can try to get cup fund money? Not sure if that’s an eligible reason but worth a shot
breeeeeeeeee31 points11m ago
Also curious about relocation pay!!
Grace__199916 points11m ago
There is also a better scheduling for breaks, you get two 10 mins breaks during a 8 hour shift And a 30 min lunch. At least my Starbucks is pretty great about giving out breaks. Not sure for every other one. There's also weekly tips.
DoctorJust [OP]5 points11m ago
Yeah we don’t get breaks 👍🏽
ConfusionDisastrous83 points11m ago
You should report that to prsc, if that doesn't get resolved, state labor board. Breaks are a requirement by law and it's pretty clear the policies surrounding in the partner guide.
Binx_da_gay_cat4 points11m ago
At our store it depends on the supervisor, but we're usually pretty good about it.
coding-barista5 points11m ago
Wasn't the $15/hr raise supposed to happen already? I'm wary and distrustful that it'll for sure happen in August.
vandilor4 points11m ago
a while ago they just said that we will get a raise in the summer. i just had a meeting with my sm today and she said i will be getting the raise but previously i read that it was for people who were hired before may or something. i’m not sure what the deal is for new partners.

The free subscription to Headspace is really great too :)
Helped me through a lot of tough times and weeks where I had trouble sleeping. Meditation, sleepcasts, etc. aren’t for everyone, but if you’re into it, it really is a solid resource.
Angelalmanzar211 points11m ago
can u tell me more about this? idk how to redeem it
ConfusionDisastrous82 points11m ago
You'll need to download the app and use the website. There's a walk through on the hub. Main page, click on benefits, right top column- headspace.
2166K1 points11m ago
I’ll be honest, I don’t even remember how I ever set it up, but I’m sure there’s a walkthrough on either partner hub or Reddit.
SplashStick2 points11m ago
I just googled “Starbucks headspace” and there was a link to sign up where it verifies your partner number, it was pretty easy
Binx_da_gay_cat2 points11m ago
If you have to do store shopping, you get 1) mileage pay, 2) reimbursed. Additionally, if you pick up another shift, you get paid mileage.
ittybittybakerkitty1 points11m ago
Also 20 free therapy sessions through Lyra
Angelalmanzar211 points11m ago
so if i got hired when it was 14.75 do i get a raise or do the new hires make more than me?
yirium-2 points11m ago
Is the unlimited drinks thing new? It was 1 per shift when I was a barista in 2020
darklordnickel1 points11m ago
I’ve been the company since 2017, and you could get up to 8 drinks a shift when i started. No one i ever worked with got more than 5/6 a day
yirium0 points11m ago
Wtf I guess it was just my distract???? I may be misremembering but it definitely wasn’t more than 2 a shift (obvi we broke those rules)
darklordnickel2 points11m ago
That’s weird af. I’ve never heard of one drink a shift. Maybe one drink a break or something.. i guess? Seems sketchy ngl

Starbucks paid for my rhinoplasty(nose job) 😩better pay than last job, stocks, mark outs, health coverage
sarahtilton_3 points11m ago
Woah how did you get them to pay for that?? Is the health insurance that good???
gabrielle_gremory5 points11m ago
I checked the big 700 page manual on sbuxben with our health benefits, searched plastic surgeries and got it covered through the supplemental insurance after meeting their requirements(Aetna)
seoliana3 points11m ago
Do you think they would pay for my lip fillers 🫣
gabrielle_gremory1 points11m ago
Does not hurt to ask
SurfPopcorn2 points11m ago
How did it pay for your nose job?

-Free drinks 30 min before, during, and 30 min after your shift. Otherwise, 30% discount.
-7 free food items/week to use at your discretion, but can only be redeemed during a shift.
-You start accruing sick time immediately upon hiring, otherwise you start earning vacation pay after 1 year with the company.
-Time and a half pay for holidays
-Online college reimbursement via Arizona State University to get your first bachelor’s degree
-Health coverage offered to part time employees with at least like 20 hrs /week. There’s an amount of hours you have to obtain, but it’s fairly easy (and mostly affordable coverage for what it is)
-free Spotify premium
-free lb of coffee (or box of tea if available)/ week.
Toomanyboringpeople15 points11m ago
More on the college, it’s not a reimbursement anymore, you can do Arizona State Online completely free, your tuition is 100% covered, you just have to pay for extra stuff like books and if your professor wants you to pay for any extra programs or anything
Mr_SCPF1 points11m ago
*30% discount
Sometimes 40% over major holidays
dirtychai021810 points11m ago
the best one imo is their program with arizona state university, it’s what had me come back to the company after i left for a different job a few years ago. not only is ASU a very highly ranked and regarded public university, their online program is one of the best if not THE best in the country. the fact that they pay your entire tuition however long it takes to get your bachelors degree (the only exception being you pay for books and classroom materials but that’s peanuts compared to tuition) is completely worth a lot of the stress that comes with the job. (personal opinion, every store and every person is different) also free spotify rly changed my life
Redacted_Cookie7 points11m ago
No one’s mentioning you get a discount at sketchers as well
pusheengothcat1 points7m ago
How do you get the discount at Skechers? I tried looking up a promo code on the perk website and can’t find anything?
Redacted_Cookie2 points7m ago
It might be in store only? I'm not sure I've only ever walked in and told them I work for Starbucks
pusheengothcat1 points7m ago
Oh alright cool! Did you still receive the discount in person after you told them you work at Starbucks? Did you have to give ur partner number?
The full tuition coverage at ASU is why I’m currently working at Starbucks. It used to be through reimbursement, but now they pay for it upfront. It’s such a great program, I wouldn’t be so close to finishing my degree without it.
throwaway28252725 points11m ago
- a free drink 30 min before your shift , one during your shift , and another one 30 min after you shift . after that , it’s 30% off - seven free food items a week - pay depends on where you’re from , and what position you’re applying for - sick time starts immediately once hired , and you have to wait a year for vacation time - free premium spotify - you also get a discount on apple products , hotels , and other stores - you can buy starbucks merch on coffeegear - free pound of coffee / box of tea each week - if you end up training baristas you get a bonus - somewhat free schooling . ASU covers i believe 43% and fasfa covers the rest. but i did hear reimbursement is a thing. you can get your bachelors degree if you don’t have one already
that’s all i can really think of right now
Art3mmis4 points11m ago
haven’t seen anyone mention this, but you can get 20 free therapy sessions per year with their deal with Lyra. you don’t even have to have starbucks health insurance. lyra is available to all partners
3aTroop3 points11m ago
Anxiety. You’re morale being beaten into submission and a bag of coffee once a week.
FunnyMonth60392 points11m ago
Don’t forget you also get your soul taken away
bkwsparky1 points11m ago
I wouldn't suggest it... I've made $8 in tips on a 35 hour week. They've been telling us we're getting that raise to $15 for nearly a year and they've pushed it back twice. Most stores (in my area anyway) are way over staffed and don't give anyone enough hours. Because of this many are not able to even qualify for their advertised benefits. Depending on the store you'll probably have to work with children who don't give a shit. Store managers are almost always a disaster. I know at least 3 SMs that have had to take leave for mental health because of the company.. Customers treat us like absolute garbage and we are required to take it... I'd suggest any other fast food chain before starbucks.
TLDR: benefits sound great up front but it's really not a good job. I just quit and good riddance.
Right-Individual-1341 points11m ago
Not really a benefit but more so learning opportunities and personal/professional development. You'll noticed a big difference in operations working from a small business to a large establishment. I used to be very introverted but working here really got me to get out of my comfort zone. You also get to learn about company political and you can even make it a career. A lot of the skills you learn working at SBUX you can apply them at other companies which help you grow professionally.
