Literally it’s so pathetic, it says butter side down on the food card. What research did they even do?
Ok_Beautiful_405617 points11m ago
It also says butter side down on the plastic it’s wrapped in. I had one for my lunch mark out a couple days ago and triple checked for myself.
mern_4 points11m ago
They have changed this standard so many times. Check the hub, the card might be outdated
FlowerCurious581 [OP]-29 points11m ago
Send a message to the Starbucks Facebook page.
SelocAvrap57 points11m ago
On social media, they're all customer service people without standards training. They saw that you didn't like it butter side down, so they responded agreeing to you. This happens a lot where customers will say they called corporate and asked how something is supposed to be done, and "corporate" will say something directly against standard to appease someone who's unhappy. Go off the written standard
SovietRaptor89 points11m ago
Veronica has never worked in a Starbucks, but she probably does make 4x as much money as you.
terriblescreenwriter12 points11m ago
Damn 🫥
SportsChick7976 points11m ago
The package last time I looked said butter side down. Now I want to read that again.
FlowerCurious581 [OP]-43 points11m ago
Yes I saw the frozen ones say that, my store grilled cheese is not frozen, I think butter up is just better that way, and for me it’s the correct way.
SportsChick7951 points11m ago
The one time I did butter up I got a second degree oil burn so team butter down forever.
qunelarch1 points11m ago
I’ve only ever cooked butter up because I got a second degree burn the one time I cooked one down. Sandwich absorbs the butter if it’s up, it melts onto the paper if it’s down. I’m aware it’s not standard but I wasnt sacrificing my safety
SportsChick793 points11m ago
I've never had a problem butter side down, it's funny how out lovely sandwiches decide to torture us in different ways (we still have the old ovens, not sure if that makes a difference too)
FlowerCurious581 [OP]-11 points11m ago
Well you have a good reason then.
StarWolf6485 points11m ago
Taste isn’t a good reason? The taste of food *isn’t* a good reason??
nicolelynnejones60 points11m ago
Team butter down
FlowerCurious581 [OP]-26 points11m ago
Booooo
ThankfulWonderful46 points11m ago
Where is Veronica messaging you from? Is that their Instagram ? Lol!
FlowerCurious581 [OP]14 points11m ago
It’s the Starbucks Facebook page
ThankfulWonderful81 points11m ago
Absolutely hilarious !
The standard is definitely butter side down even if it’s a fresh market.
That “butter” is actually a Parmesan cheese situation that is meant to get crunchy in the oven when toasted against the hot tray’s surface. Hence the “crispy” of the crispy grilled cheese.
FlowerCurious581 [OP]-48 points11m ago
Not buying it, it will still be crispy on the bottom whether or not the butter is on the bottom.
ThankfulWonderful28 points11m ago
It’s low key not the same - I’ve done side by side taste tests and sure we can all have a preference and I have plenty of partners who ask to have it toasted butter side up.
I’m just letting you know that is the standard and that is the why.
Edit to put higher up that this standard is on our food cards and was represented in the original MyLearning training when it was launched.
dankmobile37 points11m ago
Why even ask if you’re not interested in the answer
consciouscell8832 points11m ago
BUTTER SIDE DOWN - OR ELSE KARENMORPHOSIS
jazzysoranio29 points11m ago
I’m confused. Are you talking about your preferences or the standards? It’s okay if you have a preference, but our personal opinions do not equal “standards.”
Personally, I think mocha Frappuccinos should have mocha drizzle on them, but that’s just my opinion, not standard.
StarWolf6489 points11m ago
The standard IS down
If you look at the image on Starbucks app it’s clear that it was toasted butter side down because it shows the crispiness that you only get with it being face down
jazzysoranio10 points11m ago
That’s what I’m confused about, because OP clearly says they are aware of that but continues to say that their preference is the standard. It’s one thing to have a personal opinion, it’s quite another to say that your own opinion is the standard just because it’s the way you like it.
happybowlita8326 points11m ago
Veronice didn't do their job right... fired.
SeparateAd347321 points11m ago
If you cook it butter side up it’s way greasier and kind of gross.. it makes sense to cook it butter side down because that’s how you’d cook it on a skillet.
FlowerCurious581 [OP]-3 points11m ago
On a skillet you cook both sides

If you look at the grilled cheese food card in your store iPad it should say that it should be cooked butter side down
To access said food card: on Store iPad -> Store Resources -> Food Cards -> find the one that says grilled cheese
FlowerCurious581 [OP]-3 points11m ago
Thanks for pointing this out. I appreciate you being practical.
Vincent_Cromwell2720 points11m ago
Looks fake. No verification next to the Starbucks 💁♂️ nice b8 m8
turtlegoose20117 points11m ago
reading this person's replies and their frequent posts about how to cook grilled cheese correctly i wouldn't be surprised in the least that they would make a fake conversation
jazzysoranio5 points11m ago
That’s what I’m thinking
FlowerCurious581 [OP]-5 points11m ago
Well I wish I could show you a screen shot on this thread to show the blue check mark when I scroll up
Vincent_Cromwell277 points11m ago
Lol you’re too funny
cailey00114 points11m ago
I REFUSE. how does it taste better butter side up?? It’s not crispy that way
FlowerCurious581 [OP]-6 points11m ago
It is crispy, yes I get the fact that the top is soft, but I love how it absorbs the buttery juices, it’s too dry and you loose the butter cooking it butter side down.
Sequential-River10 points11m ago
OP is a troll and everyone is getting played like a fiddle.
FlowerCurious581 [OP]-2 points11m ago
No I’m serious about this controversy, I’m not trying to be a troll, but what goes around comes around and if you give me shit I will return to sender.
fuwaldah10 points11m ago
Veronica is incorrect. Whoever she is.
logiwave8 points11m ago
lets not get our Starbucks standards from the Facebook PR team lmao. Ask your SM or DM. Or just read the damn card.
BatWeary4 points11m ago
people on this sub would rather go through the trouble of asking the internet/sb’s PR team than take a minute and look up the actual recipe cards.
PayObjective1236 points11m ago
Whatever side I open the grilled cheese on is whatever side gets cooked on
turtlegoose20115 points11m ago
why are you asking for an answer if you're so adamant that your answer is the only correct one? i have burn scars from melted butter off the grilled cheese i'll cook it how i want to avoid being burned 😭
FlowerCurious581 [OP]-1 points11m ago
I agree with you, cook it the way you want, I will do it my way and cook butter up
lameabe245 points11m ago
all you have to do is search grilled cheese on the partner hub and find the most recent food card for it. it says butter side down
[deleted]5 points11m ago

TheAntiHippie03 points11m ago
I’ll second this: it was in a weekly update I believe. They just haven’t bothered to change the packaging. They taste better butter side up anyway.
accountedthrowaway54 points11m ago
i cook it butter side up because the butter side down just melts onto the oven tray and smokes up the place and it’s just way too much
FlowerCurious581 [OP]2 points11m ago
That’s the way I cook it, and that’s the way I eat it
AAA_Morningstar-6 points11m ago
Not to mention the butter turns into this liquid hot mess that can burn you pretty bad if you’re not careful when you cook it butter side down. That’s why I always cook it butter side up.
poopylilbutt3 points11m ago
Girl, no lol. Veronica is wrong lol
BlueWaters992 points11m ago
If you cook it butter side down and then flip it and eat it butter (crispy) side up. It tastes better. In my opinions.
FLMFGGT2 points11m ago
Whaaat??
StormTheParade1 points11m ago
OP I think it's time to let this one go. Every single post you've made between this subreddit and the main subreddit for the last 4 days has been *constantly* arguing about the right way to cook a grilled cheese. This has been a great example of beating a dead horse, which is great and all, except now you're using it to argue mindlessly with people.
We get it. You like it butter side up. We get it. Your store gets grilled cheeses that don't say which way to cook it. We get it, yours come fresh not frozen (thanks Wendys).
I've seen similar arguments about shaking teas. "It tastes different!" rebuttal "well I don't taste a difference"/"I prefer it unshaken" etc etc it just goes on and on. Multiple threads stretching across multiple days to argue with the same group of people is overkill.
Do it however you want. Nobody actually cares except the customers who aren't happy with it when you give it to them, however many that could be.
