Can I leave when the schedule says im off? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Kind_Door_7611
ok ok lemme explain lol. So I typically work a lot of night shifts, we close at 9 and the dcr says we get off at 9:30. But we keep ending up staying way past that, almost consistently into the 10:15-10:45 range, depending on who is the supervisor and how busy we are. My dm was in the store last week and before I left they asked me if I was having any problems in the store and I told them about the getting out late thing, they told me that we are all supposed to clock in and out according to our schedule, unless its approved by the manager. And i understand staying 10-15 minutes late sometimes, but anything past that is ridiculous to even expect in my opinion... So if it hits 9:30 on the dot, can I let my supervisor know that I'm leaving? Also, what is the rule on this if me and the supervisor are the only 2 people left in the store at close, as that would then only leave one barista?

There has to be one other person in the store with the SSV bc of safety reasons and it’s policy and the SSV has to finish all the money type stuff

I figured so, wasn't completely sure on that one situation specifically, thanks for clarifying! But still, I feel like its unfair to not just me, but anyone who has to stay over 30 mins past bc someone else didn't do their job, you know?

Voice your concern to the sm and maybe they can try and put more ppl near close or maybe SSVs/trainers can coach on pre closing to help out

Thanks for the advice!

the shift needs to learn to call it at night. we also close at 9 but i’m not staying past 9:45-9:50. It’s not fair to the baristas. The only time I’ve stayed past that was the day before a launch or there was some money issue that would get me fired if i didn’t fix it

Definitely communicate with your SM - our store frequently gets out after 9:30 from our close, but in the 9:45-10:00 at the latest range. It sounds like either a time management issue from the SSVs, or a staffing issue if it seems to happen no matter who the closing shift is

our SM always schedules 3 people for close and we almost always get out early, your SM needs to schedule an extra person, that’s incredibly late

The latest you should be staying is until 10, based on my own experience (aka 1 hour after close). Either your SM needs to adjust the barista hours to accommodate the extra time needed or needs to have another person on (or both). Do make sure you're getting paid for the time you stay until but definitely bring this up to management asap.
