Alright y’all fun little debate whats the proper way to sequence iced teas/coffee and refreshers when doing cold bar (self.starbucksbaristas)

You can’t really, I mean if I have something similar to each other I’ll do them both at the same time pretty much. But other than that I just go one by one

i believe the standard is not to sequence them anymore. there used to be a "stop" notification in the process to indicate where to switch drinks, but corporate decided that completing most of the cold bar drinks in one continuous process would be faster.

having just trained a green bean with the new training materials, can confirm that according to (current) standard these drinks aren’t sequenced!

ETA: iirc it’s explicitly stated near the beginning of the sequencing activity guide, under store resources > train a barista

Yes!!! You’re right we spent like 20 minutes in a meeting trying to find the answer!

Omg, I remember when they tried to implement the “stop” into the sequencing. Immediately I was like “did anyone in corporate actually try this before rolling it out to thousands of baristas?!” It took five seconds to realize that stopping in the middle of a beverage to put it down and walk over to the other bar and then walking back to pick the shaker back up was just a HUGE waste of time. It makes sense to stop and finish another drink anytime you have shots pouring, milk steaming, or something blending, but they were literally having you walk back and forth between stations for every single drink.

This is the way

tbh, rly just depends on your store’s set up, what the cold drinks are, what drinks you have before, and then what’s coming next. maybe you need to stop mid-drink because you had milk steaming and you gotta pour it while it’s still nice & velvety. maybe you gotta turn around to make sure your queued shots go in the right cup. but, a good tip i try to utilize when it’s practical is to put syrups first, then the bases for all your teas & refreshers if you have enough shakers on bar, then lemonade & juices if applicable, then inclusions (so far all things you’ll find on the same bar, in the same area), then i do water & ice all together at the end ‘cause at my store, there’s a cold water dispenser right by the ice bins. so basically, group together stuff you’ll find in the same location. so it really depends on your bar setup. hope this was helpful to someone!

I don’t really sequence those, but I found out that putting the ice second (so base, then ice) is the fastest way and it mixes perfectly and makes the perfect amount every time as you fill the lemonade/water/coconut at the end to the line. It’s easiest with my store setup and I can complete them in half the time as my coworkers

im gonna try this!

there is no proper way. the standard is to make one at a time for cold bar drinks except frappuccino’s. that’s all there is to it.

Really depends, if I have a frap and a refresher. I tend to do the frap first, then while it’s blending, I make the refresher then finish the frap. I heavily focus on “what can I complete in the area I am at?” To reduce movement and increase efficiency

You don’t lol

by any means am i saying this is acceptable but when you’re behind on 20+ refreshers and teas in a drive thru with 3+ channels coming through on a holiday Saturday… you can lay out the empty cups and use the black lines on them to measure out the drinks so you prep the liquid then all you have to do is pour liquid to shaker, ice then shake. but this is also a big debate on really this saves time or not because you’re technically adding another step but it’s technically prepping and also the measurements are slightly off so Starbucks would shoot me for even suggesting this bc it’s way off from standard. That being said this is essentially the only way i could see refreshers and teas being prepped but there’s really no way to prep them.

In my store, as fast as humanly possible with as little to no errors. Also, if you have to break standard protocol (ie. shaking multiple drinks w/o ice and then pouring into an ice filled cup), do what you gotta do to keep that DT time down, LOL

they’re literally impossible to sequence lol. i just try to do teas/refreshers and iced coffee/cold brew at the same time so i’m not having to walk away
