If you want to off yourself simply from making a drink a little wrong, you might need some therapy. You sound like you’re too hard on yourself - just remember that you’re trying your best and that everyone makes these mistakes, not just you.

Mistakes happen, but if you’re serious about therapy please do remember that we get 20 free sessions through Lyra a fiscal year and it’s been a lifesaver (literally) for me.

first off, are you new? because if you’ve been here for a while you’d know that customers can and will complain about everything - including problems that don’t exist and problems that aren’t even your fault. you churn out hundreds of drinks every day and you think each and every one is gonna be perfect? and that’s not even getting into the quality of the mastrenas and the quality of the products that people dont always make accurately every day. this reaction isn’t proportionate to the situation at all. i suggest you get started on lyra. best of luck

it sounds like you have a lot of anxiety surrounding this job and i know i don’t know you but i’m worried for you :( one drink means nothing, mistakes happen all the time. i was making drinks entirely wrong for at least two months before i started getting good and now i’m gonna be a shift. a drink can always be remade— you can’t 💜 there’s resources for you like others mentioned!

i have borderline personality disorder as well as a couple other mental health issues such as generalized anxiety and depression; and i feel like this constantly at starbucks. i take complaints super personal and feel like it’s an attack on my ability to make quality coffee. rushes super overwhelm me (though transferring from a drive thru to a cafe has helped a little), and sometimes i just can’t handle customer conversations past a simple “how’s your day?” this job is stressful no doubt about it, but i try to remind myself it’s just that, a job. coffee is just a small blip in a customers day, no one will remember if you mess up or have to remake a drink.

One time I made a frapp without the coffee base, just no base at all accidentally. My coworker poured it for me (somehow lol) before I could catch them and gave it out and the person drank it and immediately looked at us like 🤨
I was like "it's my fault I'm so sorry" and remade it immediately and felt so bad. That's just one of countless awkward exchanges I've had from accidentally doing something.
Honestly, we're human at the end of the day, we're not coffee making machines. Sometimes we mess up, it's okay. Just take a mental note for next time to improve yourself. Don't beat yourself up over it. If a customer gets really mad about it, there's probably something deeper going on in their life to get so upset about a drink. Most people are understanding if you explain to them how the mistake happened and offer remaking it.

Honestly, its a mood, but things do get easier over time and I think you'll find that you stop feeling like that after a while!

no but yesterday i did get pretty pissed bc i was on bar making a cappuccino for a regular when the guy on reg just comes over and starts steaming my milk for no reason. he completely fucked it up but the regular was staring me down so i just poured his drink and apologized. i KNEW i could have made him a better cap if that mf just stayed planted

i made a ladies mobile iced by accident, and i quickly remade it during a rush and I realized I used the wrong type of milk and I felt so bad after she left.

Well I mean I had a couple very stressful days, but usually I just apologize and remake the drink even if it’s the next day or it was two days ago or whatever… sometimes the machine pulls crappy shots, or you just make a mistake. At least with feedback (when it’s not said in a completely rude way) can help maybe fix something you’re not making right and you can learn.
