I agree. Most folks don't really want to chat and it makes them uncomfortable when we "connect " with them.

ur telling me you don’t want to tell the stranger at the drive thru your whole life story? 😲🧐
RavenMcG22 points11m ago
Haha right? I have been told some weird shit working the window. I'm not qualified to help you with you cheating spouse sir.

Last month I was trying really hard to make connections with this lady at the drive through who kept asking to make her frap EXTRA strong. I told her "ya now worries we're putting 2 espresso shots in there so it'll have extra caffeine. Long day?" And she straight up tells me "no I just took two norcos and I think I'm starting to feel really sleepy" 🤭

maam pls do your norcos at home

Agreed, you can tell that the customer at 6 am doesn't wanna be chatted up

I remember when I first started working I was on drive thru at night and a man came through sobbing and told me how his mom had just died and showed me her pictures and just wouldn't stop crying and I just stood there like uhh🧍♂️

It happens more than anyone at corporate could realize. "What are you doing today? " "going to pick out an urn for my adult child who died from cancer" Or "heading back to the hospital to sit with my dying father"... tbh I've been known to right now recover the drinks on those orders and send them on their way.... making the moment right ✅️

i’ve had this happen so many times, people would cry to me about losing a loved one, and i’m extremely empathetic (and i lost my dad to cancer) so i’d usually end up crying with them. 🤪

We got a comment a while back about how the commenter hated how much we tried to get to know them and wishes they would be able to just get their coffee and go. And I look at that comment almost every day and laugh a little.

especially when ur pushed to connect with mobile ppl…like i have no problems with greeting them and bidding them a good day but it’s obvious they want to get in and out quickly? I’m not gonna make someone uncomfortable like what!
dakokopuffs11 points11m ago
i think this all the time. it's SO WEIRD for a bunch of people to yell "HI HOW R U" and "WELCOME IN" the second u step foot in the store. if anything, as a customer, that'd make me so uncomfortable i'd wanna leave 😭
adolfop_4204 points11m ago
Exactly it’s like did I just walked in a cult or a unity from Rick and morty type of thing or wtf is going on?
Mement0-Morii4 points11m ago
It gets super awkward when you know someone is too shy to talk or doesn’t want to. Which is entirely acceptable. However, what isn’t is when you’re pushed by others to talk to them anyways. I don’t want to make a customer uncomfortable. It doesn’t feel right.

LMAO we can’t win!!!
PimpolhaBr3 points11m ago
I love when you ask for people name and just say NO. I get it, you just want you coffee.
