write ups (i need some support here😭) (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by trentablondelatte
so i’m an opening barista and this morning i didn’t wake up to any of my alarms. I set all of them for pm most am. We’re supposed to start at 3:30 and open at 4 and lucky i got there at 3:37 cause i live really close. I’m just afraid of getting written up. I’ve never been written up before but i can see it coming cause I was late. We were fine and everything, got everything we needed done as well. It’s just been a hard week, i was sick and had to deal with some family issues and now i’m late. I just feel like i let my team down even though no one is mad at me. I’m also applied to be a shift at my store so now i’m afraid i won’t get it because i was late.

Chances are if this a first offense or a rare occasion then you aren’t going to be written up. You may get a verbal warning which is just a coaching conversation.

last time this happens was a few months ago when i was working every morning shift. My manger let it slide and didn’t talk to me about it so i was fine. So i guess if she were to talk to me it would be my first offense. Which is fine if she writes me up but i don’t want her to think i’m unreliable. I’m just mentally drained from this week is all.

That is completely understandable. A couple of months ago does not imply a consistent (mis)behavior. Breathe and be gentle with yourself.

Please calm down. You've had a hard time recently, and you need to breathe before you cause yourself damage. :(

If you were only 7 minutes late, and it caused no issues (and you haven't made a habit of it before), then you'll probably be fine. This doesn't sound like more than a light verbal warning at MOST. Please talk to your shift and get everything straightened out, because I'm sure you're more upset by this than any of them are.

also does verbal warning count as a write up?
Impressive-Coast-158 2 points 11m ago
Think of the verbal warning as the precursor to a write-up. It's a chance to try to tell somebody they're on a bad path before they get written up. I believe that a record of it is still kept, but that's more for if they need to take it further later on.

But even that isn't going to happen here apparently. If your shift laughed it off and said not to worry about it, then that's your answer. They can probably tell that you really didn't do it on purpose, and so it sounds like you're fine. :)

i see i see, i’ve seen some of my fellow coworkers be late numerous numbers of times (more than 3) and nothing happened. I’m just a worried little bean is all. I appreciate u letting me vent 😭

It's no problem. The job can be stressful, just remember to do your best and you should be fine.

we were a bit late on morning tasks but it didn’t effect anything through the day. My shift is a good friend and wasn’t mad, she just laughed it off and said it was okay. I feel like i’m the only one upset which i guess is good. And i don’t live far away from the store so i got dressed in 30 seconds and was out the door. This would be my first write up in the 9 months that i have been there. I know it’s something my manager might have to do but i hate knowing that might get written up. I know you have 3 write ups and then ur kinda done so i’m very far from that. But still it’s makes me upset at myself

Seems pretty extreme to be worried about being 7 minutes late, if business wasn’t disrupted by you not being there fire 7 minutes you shouldn’t worry about it.

If it’s just once, it’s ok. They need to give u a verbal warning first, then written

I have been in a really bad situation for months now. There have been days where I was over an hour late because of my alarms. I also “haven’t been myself” lately (I’m living in my car with my fiancé) and there have been days at work where I had to leave early because of panic attacks and what not. And I haven’t been getting sleep like at all either so I’m super tired a lot too. I haven’t gotten fired yet. I think you are safe :)

Honestly, that happens to everyone at some point. Share with your sm that your mortified that you were late, they *should* understand and give you some grace, as long as it hasn’t been a pattern.

it’s happened once before and she let it slide cause i was working opening shift every day. So idk about this time. but that was a few months ago. So i guess 2 times in the past 10 months. I just feel bad that i let my team down but they weren’t mad at me at all.

You should be fine, write ups are supposed to expire after 6 months if no other infractions happen
