Hiya folks, apologies if this is an awkward post to make here.

I’m currently in the process of being considered for an interview with Starbucks; nothing 100% yet but I’m very keen. This will be my first paid job, but I have relevant voluntary experience. This is really just an obligatory “what do they ask you at an interview” post, but other than dress code (which I’ve looked into already) I’m happy to hear any other information that would help me at interview or even on the job.

Since I know the replies regarding these are incoming: I’m not against unions or hearing negative aspects/experiences from folk - they’re both very important and will help - but I would appreciate if any non-UK Redditors wanting to tell me about them refrains from doing so as I want local information on these issues. Additionally, with the exception of EA2010, I’d like to know about any legislation applying to Scotland that would protect any rights I have.

I’d really appreciate knowing a few bits and bobs so I’m not jumping in the deep end here. Thank you!

At my interview I got asked about situations where I’ve overcome hardships or helped others. They’ll also give you situational questions like “what would you do if a customer said they were unhappy with their drink”.

Interviews are 90% “tell me about a time when...”

If uk is the same as us then you should be able to grab a free drink when you go to interview so get one, and if you need a moment to think of what to say then you’ll have it to take a sip and think. For baristas, they’re looking for teamwork abilities & your ability to be personable to customers as far as I can tell.

Yes, there was a lot of situational questions like:

What is a time you made a genuine connection with someone?

Tell me about a time you saw someone doing something wrong, and how you handled it.

How would you handle a situation in which someone is unhappy?

Also be prepared for:
What are your future plans for your career?

Honestly make sure your answers revolve around making the customer happy, connecting with customers and over all making everyone who walks through the door happier upon leaving and you'll most likely get the job!
