Over the past 4 months I have been working with my SM to try and promote to a SSV. Currently we already have too many SSVs at my store, but we were essentially getting the little stuff out of the way so that when a position does open, I would be ready. It started with learning the play caller tool on the iPad (which we don't even use lol), to shadowing other SSVs do the pull to thaw for mornings and nights, counting drawers, etc. Now, almost any time I'm on a shift, it's kinda expected of me to do the pull. I understand that this is necessary to learn to become a SSV, but the part that bugs me is i'm not getting paid as a SSV to do the work of one, especially when I'm not even guaranteed this position when one opens up. To this point i've sucked it up and went along with it, because I really want to show my SM that i'm more than capable for it. Today, I walked into my shift knowing that my GM will be having a meeting with all of our SSVs, but not my SM. As I'm clocking in, my SM asks if im excited to run the floor today, since all the SSVs will be in a meeting. I'm a little bit baffled by this because I have little to no prior experience to running breaks, assigning barista positions, and making sure everything is running smoothly. Again, not to mention the fact that I'm not getting paid as a SSV to do the work of one. My SM was on the floor the whole time, just standing around as i'm scrambling to make sure everything is going right. The part that sets me off is that I was expected to run the floor even after all the SSVs got back. I'm a little too concerned to voice my opinion on how I feel used at my store to my SM in fear of them thinking im not ready for a SSV position. So I dont really know what to do. Are these normal steps to getting promoted?
