Will I get fired because I'm in school? (self.starbucksbaristas)

I heard a rumour that unless I have 18+ hours of availability a week I can be unexpectedly fired. I have a heavy school semester coming up this fall, and was hoping to do two double shifts a week, I'm willing to work literally from open to close two days a week, but I am nervous about possiblity being fired.

Yeah it's true but two days of open availability should be upwards of 24 hours so you should be fine. You could get the 12 by working 2 6's.

I was told it’s 18 schedule-able hours. So two days of 7-8 hours and one random 4 hour shift a week.

Yeah and OP's SM will pull them aside at some point and talk about it. Mines already gotten to all of us

yup, you have to be available at least 18 hours and will be scheduled a minimum of 12 hours. at least at my store the most my manager will schedule in a day is 8 1/2 hr shifts. i would talk to your SM about it tho just make sure it aligns bc my SM did say she would have to let go ppl who can’t be available at least 18 hrs

yeah. but an 8 hour shift and 4 hour shift can give you 12 hours on the weekend. it definitely sucks though

Talk to your SM, but the minimum is that you have to be willing to work 12 hr/wk and be available for 18hr/wk*. if you have open to close availability on two days I would not think that would put you at risk bc that should be more than the minimum.
*You’re expected to have 150% availability of the hours you’re willing to be scheduled, so someone wanting to get 20hr/week of work would be expected to be available for 30hr/wk. they’re not doing a guarantee of 12hr/wk afaik but as long as you’re willing to work that and have 18+ hours of availability you Should not get fired.

Can't speak for all stores, but my store has a few people that are only scheduled 10-15 hours a week :)
