partners being let go?? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by florencelovelace
is it true they’re going to let go 30% of part time workers next month??

There was a recent policy update saying that partners need to work on average at least 12 hrs/wk with at least 150% availability for the amount of hours they want to work (so minimum available hours of 18/wk), which is what you might have heard. I think SMs are having conversations with partners who are not at that threshold

This would only apply to a minority of partners though, probably not 30%

i have open availability for 5 days out of the week, that would be okay right?

Sounds like plenty :)

this also only applies in october for current partners, but will apply currently for partners transferring or being hired

Dunno about 30% but people who don’t offer 18hrs per week of availability and work 12 hours per week on average through each quarter are at risk of being fired. Had an official convo about the policy today, and your SM should be discussing this if not with everyone definitely with anyone at risk.

Maybe this isn’t a problem at every store, but I see so many baristas saying it’s not a big deal, but the area I’m from majority of baristas are students. This policy seems to directly affect students/ partners with two jobs. I looked at my most recent schedule (8/01) we have 17 partners with less than 12 hours that week. Im seeing so many people trying to downplay this new rule as if it’s not going to affect a lot of baristas but it is. How is my SM going to provide those 17 baristas with hours when we clearly don’t have them already? How is he going to give all the students baristas enough hours on the weekend (even if they have right amount of availability)? Just doesn’t make sense.

hours where definitely a problem at my old store, there was a partner that only worked one 8 hour shift a day

Right, like during the summer when everyone has the most open availability we have 17 baristas with 11 hours or less that one week. Students are going to have to limit their availability and weekends are most students’ best bet. For me (a full time university student, a part time student employee, and a barista) weekends are my only hope but with this new rule I think they are going to let me go despite turning in an availability with 27 hours to work with.
