Licensed store is incredibly stressful and not managed well. Thinking of leaving. (self.starbucksbaristas)

I work at a licensed store. I’ve been here for about a month or so (minus a week I was off due to covid). I’m expected to know EVERYTHING and every single drink. When I try to look at the recipe cards, or ask questions, my manager gets very clearly annoyed and upset. How am I supposed to learn when you get mad at me every time I mess up? I’m getting there but there’s a few drinks I still have to go look at the cards for, which I do to MAKE SURE I’m making it right!! Rather than if I were to ask my team lead a question, she brushes me off and says I should know. Or for example, I made a mess with the chai, accidentally of course. And word for word she said to me in a very aggressive tone: “Are you trying to make me lose my mind?!” Like bro I messed up I’m sorry I’m not perfect.

We’re also not allowed to even drink WATER, and we only get 15 minute breaks if we work 6 hours when the legal standard is 30 after 5 hours. I was also alone for 4 out of 6 hours yesterday.

Is any of this “normal” for licensed starbucks? Because frankly this is bs. I’ve been here for a month and I’ve already cried over this job because I’m so stressed.

LS TL here - not normal at all.
Please tell your ETL verbatim what your TL said to you and maybe ask for a mediation convo between your etl and team lead. This kind of attitude needs to be reprimanded because who wants to feel anxious working alongside their boss everyday? Also, you’re new, of course you’re going to peek at the cards! We have a beverage taste score alongside our connection score and if you wanted to, you could say, “I’m sorry, I’m just trying to make sure I don’t ruin the beverage taste score,” and carry on.
You deserve as much room as possible to grow and be a better barista, so your team lead should be empowering you and getting excited that you’re using the proper resources. You should never ever be crying on the job, that’s just not fair to you at all. Please say something to your ETL/whomever and remember, do not feel bad, because chances are, you’re not the only one feeling belittled! I hope it gets better.

License or not, we all should know how to make every drink even tho it’s hard. But license store has no benefits, try corporate.

Edit: in corporate u can drink water and ask people for help.

No, understandably! I know like 95% of them. I just look at the cards for the ones I’m not entirely sure just to make sure I’m doing it right.

Ur leads sound like douche bags. I’d say try to interview for a regular Starbucks. U get weekly coffee markouts. And much more
