So over tiktok and their “hacks” and “secret menu items”(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by awkward_cat_man_
Today I saw three videos about that water with the strawberries hack being .89 cents. And now I’m getting customers trying it and getting mad for me charging them for a custom tea. 🤷🏼

Company policy is to ring anything in a water as a custom tea latte. We don’t sell just the ingredients. It will deter them quickly, to all the other baristas here who don’t know that yet.

Soon SBux will be:
Venti water, add ice.
Custom tea latte for wanting ice.

I had a guy ask for that and then angrily storm out when he said his wife got it the other day and it was only $0.90. 🤷

So water with the dried strawberries? Why do people want this?
Tvdrone1642 points11m ago
Because it's cheap. That's it.

I follow a tiktok that features a duck who tests the water at different food places; the duck prefers Starbucks ice water with the strawberry inclusions.
Maybe there's a lot of people with ducks out there?

If a duck comes by and wants strawberry water, they can definitely have it for the price of water + strawberries as far as I’m concerned.

Reminds me of this

i read the title to this and immediately thought about the water w strawberries 💀💀 this lady and her mom walked in and went “is this true” and showed me the tik tok

when someone says it's just water with stuff it in, reply: that is exactly what tea IS.
water with stuff in it.
Kaluskydrak12 points11m ago
When they complain I tell them that’s how I have to ring it up and ask “did you still want it” just to get a quick answer and move on

Some ass pulled up to the speaker & blasted an obnoxious TikTok video at me. I couldn't understand what the person was saying and he said that was his order. I told him I couldn't hear it properly and asked the recipe. He ordered two drinks properly and when he got to the window threw his phone at the window person and said he wants that drink made.
I told him that we're not watching a video at the window to make his drink and if he can't tell us what he wants to order he's not getting it. He took his two drinks and left. I was so angry lol

Whenever people ask for an under the sea drink, literally all of us on headset break out laughing 💀💀💀
astivana6 points11m ago
It’s not even very good?? I tried it once and it’s just… water with slimy strawberry pieces in it.
The only time I’ve rung it up as not a custom tea was for a little kid who was struggling cause she was promised a strawberry açaí at the end of a long day and wanted something with the color. I warned her dad if she actually liked the drink, it’s technically supposed to be a custom ice tea for next time.

why do you care if they want water with strawberries, just charge the 89 cents it’s the same amount of work either way
Unicorndreamer-2323 points11m ago
It’s stated in the company policy to ring it as custom tea. Even if they want a few pumps of syrup in their water, you are supposed to ring it as a custom tea…
Even-Pain7926-17 points11m ago
dang, maybe my manager is just really nice, we are often recommending stuff like that for kids who want refreshers for parents who don’t want their kids to have caffeine
Unicorndreamer-2316 points11m ago
Yea i totally see what you mean and that can be seen as nice by giving/offering them cheaper options but it’s bad for the business and bad for us😭 i know some people may think it’s not their business because starbucks make so much money already. But this has to do with earning labour and making sure that the ingredients are used in a correct way. People started doing things for a cheaper option which sometimes causes more work for partners but in a cheaper way so it does not compensate our work… pretty much doing mor e work for nothing… 😭
But your SM should know this..? And that’s weird
RedKamo16 points11m ago
I really don’t care, but it is policy. Doing that for customers makes it harder for other baristas who can’t break policy like that, the customer will come to expect it
Sarah_Grace200511 points11m ago
you can get in trouble for ringing it up as that.
Even-Pain7926-28 points11m ago
weird, at my store we promote cheap drinks similar to that
