How do you ring up a dirty chai and is one way standard over the other? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by i_am_me47
I’ve seen it rang up both as a chai latte with added shots or as a latte with added chai. Is one more correct than the other?

Note, i’m only talking about when the number of shots are the same and when it’s iced. If someone orders a grande chai with an added shot, then ringing it up the second way won’t work both because of the water and the amount of shots.

But is there anything strictly wrong with putting through say a venti iced chai with three shots as a venti iced latte with chai added simply because it’s cheaper and doesn’t charge a dollar for each shot?

There isn’t a standard. I personally always ask “How dirty do you want it?” because it’s funny.
Had a coworker who always added 3 shots to his venti iced chai and referred to it as a “filthy chai”

I get an iced chai with 3 shots and I love that. My new favorite name for my drink, thank you so much friend! That is freaking hilarious.

That's the common slang term for a chai with 3 shots.
One shot is dirty, two is double dirty, and three is filthy. Not sure if there's a slang term for 4 shots.

chai tea latte with an added shot, remember that lattes dont get water but chai tea lattes are half water half milk for the chai to bloom. ( even tho im pretty sure 90 % of us skip the water lol )

i’ve never seen anyone intentionally skip the water, it completely changes the drink.

I'd say probably 70% of people who order hot chai in my store order it no water. To echo strexedoctopus, I'm also in South Florida.

maybe it varies by place, but down here in Miami you have to specify the water part because people just do not add it

isn’t that only for the hot chai? or have i been making iced chais all wrong..

You're all good, just the hot chai is half water; iced chais are chai + milk to top line + ice

i mentioned this in the post :) and please don’t skip the water !! it’s important

Chai latte with added shots is my default, because it makes a difference for hot drinks. If someone asks for a latte with chai though, that’s how I’d ring it up!

chai with an added shot if it’s just one shot. sometimes if they want more shots they’ll ask for it as a latte with chai which i of course have no objections to, it’s cheaper that way

Depends on if they’re nice or not. My default is the cheaper version and I let them know it’s the same drink. If they insist it’s not, then I happily re-ring the more expensive version.

I think ring it up as a chia with shots unless they say no water
I_like_to_know 1 points 11m ago
And here's me who's only been adding one shot regardless of size, still learning after 7 months lol.

Always be sure to ask how many shots they want
