How to ask for a transfer? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Avoni_C
I got hired not too long ago. I really needed a job so I made it sound like I was going to stick to this store indefinitely but I need to transfer to another city in a month. Should I bring it up now? And how should I bring it up to my manager?

Just apologize for the poor timing, but say that you're facing a sudden life change and you're moving. It's ok. It's nothing personal.

Policy is 6 months. But that’s what conversations are for. Just request to speak privately with your manager and tell them you are moving out of the area and that it was unexpected. Some life events you just can’t control. I’ve seen partners who were allowed to transfer before 6 months because of their specific situation and because they requested it and made their case. It’s not impossible. You just have to ask the right way and if your manager is reasonable it’s no big deal.

Policy states 6 months but in reality I haven’t seen a manager stick to that. I’ve worked for Starbucks for a loooong time. I’ve seen a partner get a transfer two weeks after training was done due to a change in life circumstances.

if you bring it up to your DM, and if they’re nice enough they can make an exception.
