I started putting little pieces of wet mushy fruit inclusions in the pockets of dirty aprons that were left in the back 😂. For some reason people stopped leaving their dirty aprons in the back after that.

GREAT idea
tfizy0253 points11m ago
omg yes, ive literally taken all the dirty aprons recently and washed them, cause it made me literally nauseous to even stand near the ikea bag, in which we store em its like, come on, its not that hard. my sm reminds my team of it every single week in monday mail, but apparently, they dont read it .
BatWeary39 points11m ago
my car started smelling a little bit like spoiled milk and i was like, i haven’t spilled anything with dairy in my car so wtf? turns out it was an apron i thought was left at work that had been marinating under my driver’s seat for about 2 weeks. i triple washed it ahah 😅🫠
looker00913 points11m ago
I done that before as well. It's crazy that adults can't wash it regularly
Sequential-River9 points11m ago
Yeah I think about that all the time. It's a shame that some adults can't do that but I don't often blame the individual. My mom wanted me to focus on my studies while I was growing up so she would always cook for me.
As I got older and was preparing to move out I realized I didn't know how to really cook anything besides rice and a handful of other things simply by trying to remember the pattern from watching.
Eventually I learned to cook on my own but I needed a catalyst to push me in that direction, otherwise I'd starve.
When an individual fails in a certain way, I often look back up the chain to see where society has failed them. Did their family not have enough money to do laundry frequently, or tag along and learn? Are they depressed where they physically can not move to start through the motions of laundry?
I was so afraid of wasting money trying to learn how to cook and not have any food to eat that I stayed within my comfort zone. To anyone that knows how to cook, it sounds ridiculous to not know how to cook a simple meal, but when you don't have that braincell to say "hey, maybe this is on YouTube" because you grew up in a household without access to good Internet, maybe it's not their first instinct and then it all adds up to a dirty apron.
Idk, just some things I think about because I've been paralyzed from the most basics of tasks before and just talking to the void.
yoppy_roro3 points11m ago
THIS!!! Laundry is a particularly hard task for me to complete on a schedule, but getting better!
Apprehensive-You52612 points11m ago
I have this issue but just because I have adhd and I tend not to take my meds when I don’t really need them because tolerance and honestly as a kid I struggled with the most basic things like brushing teeth doing laundry and making my bed because it was so boring to me and still is. Also I HATE wasting water and doing one apron seems like a waste of resources. I tend to only do laundry when I have enough to make a load or when it something gets super dirty. That being said I always bring my apron home and if it’s too dirty I will wash it. I also don’t throw my stuff to wash because i don’t live alone and sometimes someone will be nice and wash whatever I threw and then I have to wash it again because I’m allergic to the scent of detergent I’ll literally start coughing and my throat will close.
Sequential-River2 points11m ago
There's a lot going on here and you make points for both sides so I think you were just stating your situation instead of agreeing or disagreeing?
I think you're reaffirming my point though because your catalyst is that you're allergic so it is necessary for you to make sure it is washed to your standard. I also am very familiar with ADHD and know how paralyzing it can be. In the same regard, someone's tolerance for dirty clothes might be significantly lower than the "average person" and they've simply just never have been told "hey listen, your apron has been getting kinda dirty and it's starting to smell to the point where it's making me feel ill, do you think you could wash it more often?" Especially if no one communicates and is silent about it.
Which leads back to what I was saying before, we don't know people's personal life and what goes on. Everyone has their issues and it's no different than someone who simply can't live alone.
Sometimes it just be like that.
Shoddy-Trainer-80511 points11m ago
Also they don’t pay us enough so just leave them there
Old_Specific_12336 points11m ago
i didn't know people didn't wash their aprons!! omg
Kyde_Drakes50 points11m ago
I literally unboxed new aprons today and had partners excited that they’d get new aprons. No. Y’all stole the new aprons that were set aside for the new hires and STILL have them rotting in your car. Do your laundry! Ya nasty.
Impressive-Coast-15833 points11m ago
I honestly don't understand how they can wear aprons without cleaning/mending them. Doesn't the smell or the holes bother them?
persona-215 points11m ago
If I have a weird little like 4 hour shift where I’m just like DTO or warming then I don’t wash my apron. If you get me near bar or CS I do every single time.
Danielitics042 points11m ago
My apron stays marinating in my car cuz if not I forget it. I still live at home and my parents never taught me consistently to do laundry and are always super strict about the water bill. So my dad does laundry once a week but by the time it gets done I'm either at work or forget cuz it's in my car lol. For the first 5 months I only had 1 apron🥴
whacktherat17 points11m ago
Wait... so you're telling me that y'all don't just toss them into a metal container and have folks come up every 1-2 wks, take them to clean, and bring in packs of fresh ones? We always get a mix of old and new clean aprons too
looker00912 points11m ago
I assume you're in Canada?
whacktherat2 points11m ago
Yep:)
abandon_hopeless7 points11m ago
Yep. I'm in Canada we do this. It is nice to have a clean apron every day without having to spend a lot of extra money on coin op laundry at my apartment.
No-City-168216 points11m ago
Wait you have community aprons? I got one apron when I was hired in April, and that’s still all I got. I’m still getting stuck on register 95% of the time, so it’s generally clean anyway, but still. Also, how the fuck do you stop getting stuck on register 95% of the time?
Comfortable_Usual84410 points11m ago
I was hired 2.5 weeks ago and my sm consistently is throwing me on bar as a newbie… count ur blessings I’d kill for some register time every now and then
No-City-16828 points11m ago
I mean, the grass is always greener… but also, I feel like one develops more useful skills working bar. In the 3 months I’ve worked there, I’ve gotten like maybe 12 hours on bar. And register seems easy, till you work at my store, which is exceptionally loud, and every 3rd customer is a European tourist who needs like 30 seconds to answer whether they want their drink hot or iced. I’m not really a people person, so doing this for a while shift is often more draining than the physical demands of working bar, for me at least. Regardless, we should be given a chance to work all positions when starting out so we can get good at all of them.
Comfortable_Usual8442 points11m ago
Oh yeah I completely understand that! Being on bar really does help so much more than your partners giving you random drinks to practice. I’d just say ask your store manager if you could get some more time on bar after being there for three months you should already be there after that long I feel like?
No-City-16822 points11m ago
Yeah I should but… my SM is fairly new as an SM… she’s been with the company for like 7 years, but has only been an SM for like 9 months. She’s great, but lax in both good and bad ways. Like, she clearly started as a barista cause when it’s busy she’s out there making drinks and taking orders with the rest of us, but also… she’s too lax with things like people calling out (sounds nice, if you’re the person calling out, but for the rest of us… you know), and she doesn’t enforce silly rules that don’t make sense, but… I think you know where im going. I do ask for more shifts in bar, etc. and she always says she’ll get on it, but it never seems to happen, and im bad at standing up for myself to someone who genuinely means well. The thing is, I kinda get it… my store is crazy… we’re right outside a major transportation hub in midtown Manhattan… I feel like our off peak is probably as busy as a lot of stores morning rush… and to have someone who isn’t super fast on bar is gonna screw everything up for everyone… but how do you get super fast on bar without just doing it?
MiyaDoesThings3 points11m ago
I only worked at the Siren for 4-ish months, but I was put on bar probably less than 10 times the entire time I worked there. I feel your pain.
These-Sky89311 points11m ago
Have you asked your lead or manager to get some bar time? Mid shifts and nights are great for bar time to hone your skills. I'm sure if you asked they would
No-City-16821 points11m ago
Yeah I do ask and told Sure, but it never happens. Supposed to go in for the new training next week,, maybe that will help
save-me-plz-6 points11m ago
i can’t stand the smell of the rotten spilled milk and misc drinks on my apron. i always washed mine daily
shes-got-issues4 points11m ago
I go by the smell/look test, and I always bring mine home instead of leaving it at the store
theahope4 points11m ago
My manager posted a sign for weeks telling people to take their aprons. Finally she took them home, washed them, and then put them away to give to new baristas.
Kmsss2 points11m ago
In this category- has anyone found anything that really gets the smell out? Like completely? I’ve tried everything. 😔
HarleyLeMay1 points11m ago
Have you stripped them?
flowrpot2 points11m ago
When I worked at Starbucks, we had around 20 aprons in total in the back at one point. It had been months of them accumulating, so I took a trash bag, filled it up with the aprons, and had an infinite amount of aprons at my house
Necessary_Low9392 points11m ago
I wash them every week. I have 3

Shoddy-Trainer-80511 points11m ago
Plus they don’t pay us enough for that shit, fuck off
Shoddy-Trainer-80511 points11m ago
Lmao no I work in a Boston store and we have a laundry service that comes in every week and pics it up/ drops more off and most of us have to use laundromats so we’re actually encouraged to use a new apron every shift. Only like 2 of us take them home or rewear theirs

Mea-fae_Owl731 points11m ago
Thank you! Thank you! In my store even with a sign or verbal communication ppl still leave their dirty aprons. I tell ppl all the time if a dirty apron is left for longer than a week and it’s not embroidered then it’s up for grabs.

Any aprons that get left behind I take and they’re mine. You only have one apron now well to bad you’ve left this one on the floor in the back for over a week and now it’s in my collection
flamingavocados1 points11m ago
I have two and wash mine after each shift 😳

I don't have a washing machine or a car to get to a laundrymat regularly or the money to pay for the laundry and the ride but even i have cleaner aprons than partners who are housed and have cars and money or live with their parents 🤭
