So I got told to f* off first thing this morning and I’m still not sure why???

This morning I was barely 30 minutes into my shift training my trainee on cold bar, and our cold bar is partially not facing the front door. It’s starting to get busy as per usual for a Saturday morning, so I’m supporting my trainee as best I can without being in the way of the two on hot bars. So, there were 4 total people on bar, and the two hot bars face the front door. This is important.

When someone comes in we say good morning and welcome them in. We all know we get busy and we don’t always look up, so not everyone gets the friendly hello. I turned around to grab a cup and saw a gentleman walk in and I greeted him, turned around, and kept training. Not two minutes later my POS partner calls me and says someone wants to talk to me. I see a very unhappy woman at the register and I’m thinking… ok, she probably got the wrong drink in drive thru and wants a remake. No big deal. So I tell them to give me a moment so I can make sure my trainee is ok, and I go to the registers.

This woman is mad. Like, mad mad. Disappointed in you breathing THEIR air, mad. I ask her what I can help her with and she told me that I she saw me greet the gentleman who came in after her, but not her or her daughter. I was confused, but apologized. Explained that I was currently training a newbie and that I didn’t see her come in. To which she acknowledge that I wasn’t looking at the front door when she came in, but training someone wasn’t a good enough excuse to not greet her.

Ok…? I was super confused and asked her if anyone else greeted her, and she said no, that -I- was supposed to. Now I’m very confused, because the two partners on hot bars didn’t greet her either, but she had a bone to pick with me??? I looked over to my SM, who was one of the partners on hot bar, and he just shrugged. I apologized again and asked if she was picking up an order or placing an order. She demanded to know who the SM was, I pointed them out, and she scoffed. Told her daughter to order, and said she no longer wanted anything.

Ok, cool, so I try to get her daughters order, but this kid is on her phone talking. I get something out of her and when I try to clarify the size, since the daughter won’t even look at me to order, the woman finally had enough. Said f* you, we aren’t getting anything, and just left.

My SM looks at me confused. I’m confused. The man behind her, who turned out to be a visiting partner from another store, also confused. The partner who originally called me over said she refused to let him take her order, and everyone is just lost at this point as to what this woman’s problem was. Now, if it had been that no one greeted her I might have understood a bit, but being so upset over a not being greeted by someone who isn’t even facing the front door?

My dudes, this is why this job makes me tired. We are human. I don’t have eyes in the back of my head. I’m just tired.

Some people are literally so petty over things it's mad. Sounds like she had some problems but oh well lmao. They don't want robots serving coffee because they won't be able to do stunts like that.

Exactly! I would be somewhat understanding if she was mad that she was ‘ignored’ but she was mad that I specifically did not acknowledge her entry. While also acknowledging that I couldn’t have seen her because I was not facing the door.

Not paid enough to be superhuman LOL

Ah, so *everyone’s* customers were in a shitty mood today, not just ours. Nice

I wish I could say this was the only one today, but this just started a long line of ‘interesting’ people today. Had one person insist we could make a cold brew hot. Another demanded sugar free matcha, not sugar free vanilla in matcha, but sugar free matcha. Next was a ‘unblended’ mocha cookie crumble. My favorite is the man who wanted me to put espresso beans into their java chip. As in, blend whole beans into it. Because that was the ‘original’ java chip. Y’all, I’m tired XD

Ok but I would honestly love to just hand the ingredients of a mocha cookie crumble to someone unblended and be like here you go. Like please believe us when we tell you we know how to do our jobs and there isn’t a way to make it exactly the same but not blended.

Right? Here is a cup of ice and a little bit of milk and coffee. Have a nice day.

Apparently this person wanted the ‘cookie’ pieces, aka the java chips, on top and not blended in. So she wanted java chips on the top of the whipped cream so she could eat them whole.

Kinda off track but I don’t understand training on the weekends. Most Starbucks I know their busiest day is Saturday. Why are we over stressing our green beans before they even have a foundation and the trainers with trying to provide that foundation under such circumstances.
pinkraisin 2 points 11m ago
Right. I just finished training someone and my manager did not schedule us to train on the weekend thankfully
Mea-fae_Owl73 1 points 11m ago
Thanks good! Sadly just last week we had trading for a new bean on a Sat

This trainee can only work on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. So it is what it is. Luckily my store is so dead in the early mornings on weekends until about 8/9 am. So that’s a good few hours that we can get some training done.

I’ve experienced that before as well. Glad you’re able to make it work out
agigante02 4 points 11m ago
customers love taking out their personal problems on us because to them we're apparently not even human:/
Bob_Geldofs_Eyebrows 1 points 11m ago
Because you’re not allowed to argue with them or say anything negative, it’s abusive. They think they’ll get something for free, meanwhile workers are crying in the back. People suck
agigante02 2 points 11m ago
and their behavior towards us isnt abusive?? this lady who regularly would cause issues at our store was throwing cups at us behind the bar, one almost hitting my head. ever since that and up until i quit, i stopped treating customers how management expects us to. they deserve to be treated the same way they treat us. i dont care if that sounds horrible; im not gonna stand around and let a bitch boss me around just cause im on the clock. i KNOW they wouldnt try pulling that shit if I hadnt been working. people indeed do suck
Bob_Geldofs_Eyebrows 1 points 11m ago
No, that’s what I’m saying, the customer is the abuser. I support the partners and wish they had more rights
agigante02 2 points 11m ago
oh my god im so sorry i completely misread it- i thought you meant talking back to them was abusive. i understand exactly what you meant now and i agree with you
Sad_Artist8253 3 points 11m ago
These customers are starting to get out of control and entitled
dankmobile 3 points 11m ago
starting to? they’ve been acting like this
Sad_Artist8253 2 points 11m ago
Yeah but now the company is rewarding them for acting a damn fool so they are getting more creative with how they act

Entitled asf.
SunBusiness8291 2 points 11m ago
What's your SM fkn problem? He couldn't step up, just shrug?
Kyde_Drakes [OP] 2 points 11m ago
I don’t think they understood the situation until I explained it to them fully later.

I just made a post about these dumb customers. If u have a chance to read it
